When is a turtle not a turtle ?

Both turtles (aquatic or semi-aquatic) and tortoises (terrestrial) belong to the order Testudines (Turtles). So a tortoise is really a land-dwelling turtle.
What ??? A boat and a car are both means of transport. By your logic, a car is just a land-going boat ?
Sounds logical to me. ;) Never can tell what problems the language barrier can bring. For instance, if I was a member on a German photo site and wanted to enter a challenge for a photo of 'das Flugzeug.' If I had a lousy translator or looked it up as two words it could translate to 'flying things.' Or if I was relying on my two years of spotty high school German... I might very well enter a kite or a hot air balloon... Even if I saw airplanes entered, I might still think I was within the rules.

One thing I learned from having close friends in non-English speaking countries is not to take it for granted that you are communicating perfectly. Even if they speak English better than some of your native-English friends and you're having great conversations, there is still translating going on.

So true. This reminds me of a trip to Germany where I traveled with German friends. We were at Neuschwanstein, the famous castle of King Ludwig II. Neuschwanstein literally means "new swan stone". I was pronouncing it like Neuschwantzstein. Schwantz refers to the male appendage in German. People were looking at me and chuckling. My friend Ude explained the situation and taught me to pronounce it correctly, on the spot. :-)

I just got my votes in and ignored the Turtle/Tortoise question. They all got shells and legs........so they're Torturtletoises.....or something. :)

Bob

That is how the host wanted you to do it. They all fit the rules so treat them that way when voting.

I even treated the chickens as if they were turtles.......and the alligator thingy.

Me too. All votes done. This was another interesting challenge. Since it's going to end in a few minutes, I will add that I never thought I'd see an emotional expression in one of these guys, but the bee seems like it triggered something.... I'm not sure what but that turtle had a pretty inquisitive look in it's eyes.

My favorite by far. Love the "look" on the turtles face even though I think it would look the same without the wasp it was just such a perfect fit.
