Last week I was in Puerto Rico and tried my new Nikon V1 with the FT1 and the Nikon 28-300 mm zoom lens. The camera was mounted on a Gitzo Series 1 tripod. I selected the electronic shutter and triggered the camera shutter with my finger.
So far I am impressed with the results. With the 28-300 lens set at 300 mm I am getting the FL equivalent of 810 mm. The images were enhanced with PS Elements. This is a very light package that works very well at long focal lengths. I wished that the mode button had a lock as it is very easy to change it accidentally as you grab the camera. AF-C would be a great addition. Using the EVF with a very active bird can be a challenge as it takes a relatively long time for the live image to reappear. Battery life is pretty good even with the use of the flash. In the Hummingbird shot I used the flash as fill from about 30 feet. I wished that I could reduce the flash power 1/2/3 stops. So far I have not found that feature.
Next time I will try the camera with a 300 f4 with & w/o the 1.4X and 1.7X teleconverters.
Soon I will add other pictures taken with the V1 stock lenses: 10-30 and 30-110. Thank you for looking at the images. Please comment.
