Hi all.

Yesterday me and my x10 fell into sea water.I realised that the camera is not amphibian...
Here are my x10 last photos.

Oh no! Please tell me you had some sort of accidental insurance for the camera? I could not imagine losing the camera after just a few weeks. I hope things work out.

The same thing happened to my XZ-1, so I can sympathize.

There is no point sending it back to Fuji. They won't repair a camera that has been in contact with sea water. There will be signs of oxydizing and they won't touch it.

If you have no insurance, the camera is a loss, so you might want to try this:
  • Remove the battery and do not attempt to switch it on.
  • Take the camera apart carefully, and take pictures to remember how it goes back together.
  • Put everything in a basin filled with DISTILLED WATER. Rinse, clean, rub gently and rinse again.
  • Let the parts to dry a least 24 hours
  • Repeat the rinse and dry process again with distilled water ONLY. You want to remove all traces of salt.
  • Put everything back together, switch it on and see how it goes.
I got my XZ-1 back to life that way, but unfortunately something was still wrong with the shutter and there was some crud inside the lens. You might have more luck.

@vronv

painful story. almost same thing happened to me last summer. miscalculating a wave.
well, it was all of a sudden much higher than the previous ones. only i got wet.

@nibb31

very useful tip (with the distilled water). i thought and heard of dismantling and letting dry up several times but never heard of any succesful stories. well, it seems yours was close to succesful. i suppose it makes a difference if the camera was on or off (shortcircuit when it was on) when it came in contact with water.

@paultill
even this truly sad/painful story didn't stop you from making a stupid joke.

Thank you all.

I don't think i can bringmy ex x10 back to life.(of course not under Fuji's warranity).

But anyway- i look forward and glad it is a camera (and Galaxi s1 & Citizen watch)...

Realy i take it easy, that was the fate and could have been worse.

Now,i'll go back to Nikon D90 & Leica -Lux 3.

Again,thank you all.

Ron

Now that is tragic, you drowned your Galaxy S.? Loved my Galaxy S, I treated myself to the S2 at Christmas, it's everything the S was and more.

Paul.

P.S. Walking in the sea with £1000 worth of electronics is not a good idea.

I'm so sorry to hear this. :-(

A few years ago I was in Oklahoma at a SP and crept out onto a flat wet rock with my Fuji s100fs and fell face-first into the rock, manging to hold my camera out of danger. Lots of blood, lots of swelling that evening - but I was more concerned about the camera than my face. So I can sympathize with how you must have felt to a limited degree. :-(

Should you try the take apart/rinse/dry method Nibb31 suggested, I'd like to stress the value of taking pictures of the process -- not only to remember how the parts go back together, but also "in the name of science", for sharing with any DIY’ers that may in the future need to clean the sensor or loosen a jammed dial.
A couple of inspiring examples:

Good luck!

Still, very sorry to hear about that vronv. You were getting some lovely pics with your X10.

I also got a Galaxy S2 at Christmas (first time with a droid - traded in my aging Blackberry). I finally got it rigged up the way I want it, and the thing is amazing. It would be tragic to lose it to the sea!

Cheers,

Sorry to hear that. It happened to me last year with my K5. Pentax would not repair it . Luckily, I bought the camera with Visa and was able to claim it. It took a while, but i got my new one by November.

Most credit cards including Amex, will cover accidental damage and also will extend the warranty by one or two years. I hope you did buy it with a credit card, so you can do the same!

Because I am a risk taker and can be clumsy at times, I went out and purchased a 3 year accidental coverage warranty for my x10. If anything, your post has persuaded me to finally get the coverage as I had been on the fence for a while.

Many credit cards add up to a year of warranty AND protection against loss or damage. You might just be able to get your camera replaced under that policy. Go to your credit card company's website and see if they do.

If you bought it with a debit card, no go. Debit cards are too risky anyhow so I don't have any.

Sorry to hear of your loss Ron, it’s something that every photographer dreads in the back of their mind when out shooting. You are clearly very adept with the x10, this set is very impressive. My very best to you. :D
