Shan, do you ever go out of town to do Photoshop Seminars? I would
love to organize one in the Hendersonville/Asheville area.

--nope, never gone out of Nashville area to do so. I teach Fall/Spring and Summer quarters; so I'm locked in except for semester breaks and weekends. I'm doing my first "outside of college" lecture/demo late spring at the Brentwood Camera Club, here in the Nashville area. I started out doing individual tutoring (which I am most comfortable with) in 1998 for our School's Vocational Rehabilitation Department (I was still a student at the time) then I graduated to teaching classes (15 students per) That was scary at first, but I got over it. It. I think the Camera Club crowd is going to be a bit bigger and that makes me a bit nervous but the only way to get over it is to dive in. Believe it or not according to my Myers Briggs test---I'm an introvert! That doesn't mean I'm shy or can't talk....hardly but I do prefer small groups to large ones....so this time of year with shopping stresses me out to the max with the crowds.

of course I had to go on the web and find out about Myers-Briggs and found a site with an online test similar to their approach. According to my results I am:

"slightly expressed introvert
moderately expressed intuitive personality
moderately expressed feeling personality
slightly expressed judging personality"

Here's a link to the test site: http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes1.htm

P.S. I understand...but I sure wish you had the time and inclincation to do a seminar in this area...you have such fabulous information to import...Maybe you'd like to do some sort of weekend thing in Nashville and we could come and stay a while!

--Good resource hunting Isabel! I'm an NFPi and the funny thing is, so is one of my daughters (the calendar one) We both took the same "Psychology for Adjustment" class, where part of the course was to take this test! The NFPI's were in the minority of the class, overall!

The drive up thing might be cool. Do y'all have laptops? I only have 5 computers (2 of which are G3 laptops) in my studio and they all very according to processor speed. They're all Macs. I also have a small 'shooting" room thats about 12x13 with 13 foot ceiling. Three WhiteLightnings/soft boxes, umbrellas, homemade lights etc. Right now, the shooting room is a mess with stored stuff from my daughter's moving...but that needs to be cleaned up after NewYear. She's having a baby in May, so it would have to be before or a couple months after that. I do not have a projector so it would have to be a small group unless somebody wants to take care of those details and another larger space for a seminar. The Brentwood Camera Club has the equipment and the means to aquire a facility. I'm not sure if you have to be a member or not to attend one of their sponsored meetings but I'll find out; as I said I am doing a lecture/demo there I believe on June 3rd. Let me know your thoughts, this might be a do-able thing! What topics do you want demo'd? Personally, I'd like to show y'all how to glamorize photos (my digital makeup and other special effects) A graphics tablet is a MUST! And how much is it worth to you? grin!

I have a laptop and I'm about 7 hours north of Nashville. My primary interest is photo restoration, which means I could use help with managing and using a million layers . . . and curves. But I'm game to learn anything I can about PS. Took a 6 week (2 hrs a week) course through our ARt Museum (cost: $120) , but half of the people there didn't even know how to do such simple things as make folders on their computers or download a pic from the web...so it wasn't very useful. Also took a 3-hour course through our technical office at the university (cost: zero) ...was very helpful but it went way too fast. Everything else I have learned from books and lurking about here on this forum.

...except when there's the possibility of icy roads...we can't even get down the hill from our house when the roads ice over. Perhaps you could include the cost of the rental of a computer projector in the fee for the course. Access to your studio will be outstand...I really want to learn about portrait lighting...of course Photoshop manipulation is of primary import...but I have a handle on a lot of that...the lighting is a big void in my brain.

Isabel
P.S. What's an "NFPI"?

I have "one-ish" tendencies.
Did you enjoy learning about yourself?

One of the churches around here sponsored a two-day Enneagram seminar, which I attended. Extremely enlightening...helps you understand friends and family, too. I'm glad I went.
Surprised a church did it, since it wasn't especially related to "the faith".
Isabel

P.S. We're a bit off topic here, so I just want to remind you we're really looking forward to a Shan seminar which we now know you would do splendidly, since you're a "one"!

still off topic, but I'm a "7" as well...

it mentions nothing about "Pope-like" or "Legend" in the explanation...

I'll do it again and give it my dogs characteristics.......... (he's probabaly an "8")

joking . . . .

shan,

i know from browsing this forum you're tied up for a while...but when you can, i'd love to hear why you feel a graphics tablet is so essential to retouching. i know i speak for many folks when i say how much i appreciate your contributions here and on your personal website.

incredibly helpful stuff and i think your photos are tremendous.
