Thank you to Eric and all participants for making the last MC such a success. I'm sure that this little challenge is one of the longest-running on DPR, due to your faithful participation over the years.

I've been thinking of possible themes on and off all yesterday and this AM, but, in searching the list of past themes, pretty well everything I thought of has been done here - and some very recently. So, I'm going to wimp out and go with one of my own personal favourite genres of photography that I haven't done a lot lately, and that we haven't done here since way back in #80, but that everyone must have done - and at least reasonably well. So we should get lots of eye candy shots in this one.

And the theme for MC 251 is:

SUNRISE... SUNSET

No explanation necessary. Y'all know what a sunrise and sunset are :) Just gime a few doozies! I will be looking for good compositions, among other features, like colour and generally decent IQ. B&W shots are welcome, though I doubt I'll see many for this one :)

Here are the rules (And please read them)

1) Enter up to 3 photos from any camera taken at any time. Let us know about equipment, settings and processing if you like.

2) The winner chooses the next mini challenge theme and selects the next winner and so on...

3) Please post your entries by replying to this original post rather than under someone else’s post - and change the subject line to the title(s) of your images or something like that to separate your picture posts from comments that someone may make about your post.

4) In the spirit of the previous challenge, I would like to nominate the previous host to take over my role in the event that I am unable to continue. The nomination carries an instant second, and the rules close out further nominations!

5) The challenge is open immediately, and will close for entries and exhibitions on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 8:00PM EST (that's Eastern Standard Time - like Toronto or New York City)

6) As usual, exhibition entries are encouraged, if you have interesting images to share beyond your three entries, or should you feel you are not able to host the challenge in the event that you win.

7) All entrants should check the results of the challenge and be ready to jump in with the next competition if they are the winner.

8) PLEASE feel free to make as many comments as possible. This adds to the fun and keeps people coming back.

Examples will follow in the next post. Thanks for your participation!

Always a favorite topic of mine, being a Florida boy...you know, the Sunshine State! ;)

Ironically, my entries are not from Florida...but elsewhere.

1. St. Lawrence River, Quebec, Canada - marble sunset:

2. Big setting sun over Cuba:

3. Gloucester, Mass - red skies in the morning (sailors take warning):

Three really good sun shots with incredible colour. I'm kinda partial to the first one, though, because of the better balance between the land and sky, I think, and the great color reflections off the water surface.

and the two sides (bottom and left) with ground features really anchors the image nicely.

While this one doesn't have the typical sunrise/sunset colors, it is, nonetheless a splendid shot - a type of shot I don't have much of, myself.
