We saw the news this week that Panasonic has brought out a range of supplementary lenses for the 14-42 X standard zoom for the GX1 m43.
This is great news! There is a closer-up lens along with a wide-angle, a 2x telephoto, and a fish-eye.
That close-up lens will be a boon. I've just taken delivery of the Olympus equivalent, the MCON-P01, for the 14-42 II R standard lens for Oly's current rop of E cameras (Panny is following Oly on this one).
It's about 2x, feather light, slides easily into a shirt pocket, and helps you take pictures like this (lens zoom to its 42mm max):
I deliberately focused on the rear petal in the middle of the pic here so I could see how well the supplementary lens handled the fine hairs on the tomato vine. I reckon it did okay! In fact, extremely well!
I'm sure a lot of Panasonic GX1 users (and users of others cameras who fit the 14-42 X lens) are going to be very happy campers with the new lightweight supplementary lenses -- so long as they can overcome the prejudice against supplementary lenses
per se seen in forum discussions.
As an Oly owner, I am very envious of the Panny telephone supplementary. Oly's supplementary range for the 14-42 is close-up, wide-angle, and fish-eye only.
Cheers, geoff
