I couldnt figure this out, and I dont like using the supplied Nikon software...

When I hook the D7000 up to the computer I would like to use Explorer in two windows to simply cut groups of photos and simply paste them into the destination in the other window....The way it is now I can only copy.

On my OLD Sony, it was neater, because as I went along the card became 'erased'...
IS there a setting I could change?
OR should I learn to evolve?
Thanks
Tony

In my experience, file transfers of this kind aren't as dependable as cut and paste from one folder on a hd to another.

I always check to make sure the transfer has been successful before I erase the files on the memory card. Much better safe than sorry.

It's because the D7K appears to Windows as a device, rather than mass storage. Most newer devices are like this (I hate it).

My suggestion: by yourself a cheap USB card reader. I got mine for $13, and it reads just about every kind of removable media. Faster, easier, and less "risky" than hooking the camera up directly.

I thank you all. I see the logic for the file transfer protocol...I am just a stubborn guy...and sometimes I might grab only the pics from one party and move them...Then I have a camera containing copied and uncopied pics...
I think I am just going to get a reader and be set in my ways!

I have never transferred images from my camera directly into the computer. I just take out the SD card, put it in my slot and work from there. I do use Nikon's transfer function in ViewNX2 to get the renaming capability.

I see you're already deciding to remove your SD card and transfer from there... the way you want to do it.

Good.

But just removing (cutting) the pics from the card isn't always the best "erase".

I would recommend... as would many others... to "format" your card each time you copy the pics to your computer.
