I use Final Cut Pro 7 and when I used the Log and Transfer window and import the files into FCP, the files increase ten fold.

Does anybody know why that happens?

Because (stupid) FCP transcodes them into Apple Intermediate Codec for editing instead of using the original files.
It takes one stupid to know another stupid, and since I think you are not stupid ....

I was surprise at the file increase from the original files.

I dont think Kilrah was calling you stupid, rather the software :)

Yep, haha!

To elaborate a bit, it's transcoding to a low compression codec that is more easy on the machine. It WAS a good idea at a time, but the reason I'm calling FCP stupid is because it's still the only way it lets you work with even if today's machines are perfectly capable of handling the native files, and we could save the transcoding time and huge disk usage.
