Low noise with the Sony A900

thanx, yes that is an awesome subject to photograph, but the conditions is a bit harsh, -14c your batteries last for about 20min fully charged, luckily i had lots of batteries with me. can you imagine the effect that temperature have on your bare hand when operating your camera because you cannot do it with cloves on

Wonderful pictures! The second one is incredible.

The A900 is a very robust camera. My A65 slows down after being out on a tripod for several hours in 20 degree F weather.

Cheers,

Awesome pictures! Where is the location?

Its amazing what technology do in this sort of weather, my cellphone refused to work, my GPS did not work my laptop gave me endless problems and my body slowed down and shrink in some sensitive areas ,......but the A900 was gr8, i had it out for hours on end and never had a problem with slowing down or any technical problems, the other people that was there had problems with their gear, but they did not use Sony.

WOW only 300KM from north pole. Sony should hire you for their A900 dependability TV commercial. :)

that was taken in Saariselka at the Kakslautenan Hotel , Finland. About 300km from the North Pole
Small correction, it's Kakslauttanen Hotel :)

About battery life, are you sure that your battery is ok ?

Last winter I was shooting at a long distance ski competion, took some 700 pics with my A850 during the day ( -20C ) and battery had still 30% charge after that.

LOL IMHO i think that next time if i tackle that weather i will prepare better, at least 2 sets of thermal underwaer

Hey with a name like that im impressed I made so little mistakes, regarding the battery life, remember i only took 30sec exp shots and that is have on your battery, so its 30sec's for the pic and 30 sec's for the processing, but i have learned later that if you keep the spare batteries in your pocket close to your body they last longer

Good point.
but i have learned later that if you keep the spare batteries in your pocket close to your body they last longer
Yes.

A very fine set of photos. Pre-warming the batteries would have certainly help. Any way you may have insulated the batteries in a rather warm environment prior to the shooting?

But with risk of shrinking some sensitive parts of body even more!!!! Ahahahah

Nice photos!

Person is taking photos, not camera. When photograph is bad, it's because photographer doesn't know how to choose settings optimal to "own preferences". Then blames camera for bad IQ.
This is same as blaming car about arriving to wrong destination.
