Location
Washington, DC, US
for the big event - the 2012 International CES, January 10-13

Do you think they will show the A99 prototype? or Nex Hybrid? hmm whats in the pink crate? Anyone attending?

Cool! Looking forward to hearing new stuff from Sony!

... may mean not much Alpha stuff on that (huge!) booth. Just guessing ... and continuing to guess:

With 2012 being Photokina year and the year after the Thailand flood, the Nippon tsunami and the sort-off still unfinished release of the a65, a77 and Nex7, CES January 2012 may be more than just a bit early for major new Alpha announcements.

My guess is as good as anybody elses.

Yeah, it has to be. All those bravia TVs, other AV gear you can just imagine. You have to compare Sony's booth with Samsung or LG. Afterall, how big is the alpha business to overall Sony's business. It could be smaller as compared to AV. BY the way, are you affiliated to Sony in any way? Just curious

Just a customer of Sony! I thought they were going to cut down with their expenses due to the big losses the past 3 years but I don't see them slowing down...

Based on the fact that you're able to get into the convention hall, it would indicate that you work in the electronic industry, or are part of the construction crew. If you're not part of the construction crew, based on my experience in attending CES, only people with 'exhibitor' badges (or people who belong to the union who construct the booths) are allowed into the hall this far in advance of the show. The companies usually use their own people to put products on display.

However, the third picture showing the crates, shows warehouse racks in the background. I don't recall seeing this type of warehouse racks at CES. I think that picture was taken at the Sony warehouse prior to the crates were shipped to CES.

If the crates are at the Sony warehouse, it would indicate that you work for Sony.

No wonder you're such a Fanboy.

Not my photos but from Sony's public site...

As I recall, Sony has three spaces at CES. There is the main convention center display area, and one in the North Hall, near the main entrance to the convention center. I forgot whee the third space is.

If you aks me, they have to do something really drammatic to turn around that business. They have really lost it to the Korean giants. Complacency was the problem with Sony. Look at their high end TVs, the HXs, they really offer little calibration controls for the people who would love to have those kind of Tvs. I fSony offered this, I would have bought one. Then look at Samsung and LG, they offer a lot for less. In addition the LCD business is laready saturated so the competiton will be tough. Unless Sony reduce the prices they demand for their products, there is only direction for that business. You want a clue: Philips

Well congrats on another web research, BMWX5. For a moment you had me thinking you were closer to the matter than just the usual Google results.

Hence see my guesses above and eventually forget about major Alpha announcements on CES 2012. Good night and good luck.

Not sure what calibration settings you refer to as being missed, my 52HX903 gets no complaints from me, and I've used their Profeel series sets previously.

In your OP, you used pictured that were not your own, but are/could be copyrighted by someone else (and without attribution to the source). You might want to read up about the Stop Online Privacy Act (SOPA) bill going through Congress. If this bill were to become law, it could be possible that the owner of the copyright to the pictures, could cause the Dpreview site to be blocked.

It's a stretch, but is possible if SOPA becomes law.

Contact your representatives in Washington D.C., and tell them to oppose SOPA.

Sony has had problems with their TV division for years. They were slow to get on the LCD bandwagon, choosing to stick with CRT for too long. When they finally made the switch, they made up ground, and was back in the lead.

Then they got arrogant, and thought that the SONY label on the front of the set would protect their lead. In the meantime, new players like Vizio came in the low-end of the market, and the Korean giants all stepped up their game.

Don't know if Sony can turn it around again, they seem to be confused as to what to do.
