>>>Monday Macro/Closeups 2 January 2012<<<

nice shooting and i liked the monarch fact also. i didn't know the migration happened that way. i suspect the first shot may not be a monarch. i'll post again if i can figure out in my book what it is.

nice image. i especially like the light beams.

thanks for the kind words Yuki,Winie,Bruno,

the second one was a challenge as the neighbors pet pig was nudging me as i was trying to get the shot. i was concerned also that she was going to eat all the dandelions. they all seem to be missing today.

The two images are excellent caption to your narrative, Yuki.. looking at the two guys one can see the "generation gap", LOL.. have you noticed all the splendor of the young butterfly (second image) in comparison with the first one, who is all worn out, the beautiful trimming pattern of the wings gone :( .. this most certainly is proving your story to be right.. good job, thanks for posting. Thank you for running the first macro thread of 2012. :D

Best regards,

Thanks Bruno, the tattered butterfly didn't seem bothered at all, fluttering around like nothing was wrong. These guys are truly tough, I suppose you would have to be if you can fly across the Atlantic!

Addendum - cmantx just corrected me that the first one may not be a Monarch, I now think it may be a Painted Lady. There goes my interesting story telling... :P

You know, you may be right cmantx. It could be a Painted Lady.

I took this picture of a drop of water exiting the faucet using the built in flash of the LX5 in manual mode.

Living in North Florida, some years we get freezing temperatures during the winter, some years we don't. Last night we got a (for us) pretty bad freeze, down to 26F. We covered our flower bushes with blankets but they picked a poor time to bloom...

As always, beautiful images! Difficult to pick favorites, but I'll go with the water droplet on a leaf, and the white and red flower. Very nice.

Very nice series nemesix, you can really see the effect of the frost on the poor flower! We occasionally get frost here in So Cal, and my rubber tree loses all the leaves when it happens.

Excellent capture, Phil.. if you weren't extremely lucky, you probably needed a couple of runs to achieve this image ;) .. the water droplet looks as a glass Christmas ball ornament.. well done, thanks for sharing :D ..
