3 HDR

People have different tastes, of course. I like tone mapping, but not in your face kind of HDR. Unfortunately, most of the HDR programs tend to overcook the images. These look overcooked to me. The noise is also too pronounced.

After testing every software I could find, only SNS-HDR was pretty good at consistently producing sharp and natural images. Highly recommend.
these shots were kind of ordinary so I attempted for the first time HDR

HDR doesn´t save pictures which otherwise wouldn´t be that great. My friend has a D7000 and is on the HDR trip (in a too strong manner) at the moment.

He posts a lot of pictures which aren´t that great and only get shown becaus he bracketet them. It gets old pretty soon.

HDR can be great, but only if the starting pictures are allready good and it´s not overdone.

What´s that noise?

I think the tracks shot works really well, could see it mounted and displayed. The way the snow looks black on top and white on the bottom is pretty cool. May be it could use some straightening, but may be not - hard to tell without seeing it.

The others do not speak to me.

How can you execute High Dynamic Range when you don't have a series of dynamic range exposures to combine?

It's a bit of a sloppy post processing - besides tone mapping, what did you attempt at the center?

I agree, I like the railroad one but all of them look pretty unnatural, if that's the look you are going for, it's cool, it looks very painting-esque. I haven't had much luck with HDR, mine never come out very good, but it is fun to tinker with...

Thanks Vlad S for your comment.....

Hey Bob, I was just trying to do something that I thought was pleasing to the eye. Vlad S liked it, you didn't, I guess that's what makes us all unique

Agree. I like the first one a lot. It has a really nice textured feel.

Perhaps it does not look "natural". But I have no problem with that. Making a picture doesn't have to always be made to look natural. It depends what you want to show.

Also, even though this one looks very processed, it doesn't have the typical cliche HDR processed look.
Thumbs up from me :)

I wasn't talking about subjective opinions. I see a relatively large dark circle around the vanishing point of perspective, and asked what you attempted (to help you see the sloppy distraction - it's easy to miss things like this when intimately developing).

I don't see why that particular image needed an application of tone mapping, but that's a subjective observation.

I know this next pic isn't micro four thirds but is the same tracks as the other and still HDR.

Looks great forpetessake, unfortunately your program is only windows based. Maybe I'll try doing another with a more natural setting.

In my opionion the second one works well. On the others i would have toned it down.

Important is if you like them :)
Are these overdone?

Black snowflakes in a white sky?

I can usually appreciate HDR images. But generally HDR works for scenes that have a high dynamic range. It's hard to see that any of these scenes had that.

I suggest you try again shooting some scenes that would actually benefit from HDR processing.
