We could all come up with a list of improvements we would like for our new cameras, but what I really want is a new lens.

I want a "G" version of the Sony 16-80 or better yet the 16-105. Sturdy build, great optics, SSM, and FF. The faster the better of course, but I'll take what I can get.

Before that magic lens appears, what you can do is pair the new Sony 16-50/2.8 SSM with Sigma 50-150/2.8 HSM (if you can still find one). These two deliver good range, wide aperture, relative light weight (both APSC lenses) and reasonable prices.

On my list too, to replace the poor build of the Zeiss 16-80. Like the optics of that lens, hate the very poor build.

Even better might be a top quality G version of the 18-270.

Agree, improved 16-80 with proper Zeiss build quality and waterproofing, 16-105 would be nice if not too heavy or 2.4-3.5 aperture. Some extra rangeor f-stop would make it easier to sell me buying it to the misses

Also G series or Zeiss standard zoom for the Nex 16-80+ range (OSS)

But still a firmware making it possible to disable or set confirmation on that bloody movie button on both a77 and nex-7 would be the most appreciated.

As its two different teams they should be able to deliver on all the above this year :)

That's a interesting idea. I now have the 16-50, 16-80,80-200 f2.8 and the 70-300g and what I could do is the 16-50, 50-150 and the 70-300g to go along with my zeiss 135 and sell the 80-200 and the 16-80. I will have to give it some thought.

Are you the one selling your 70-200 on the other forum? If so I just posted that if someone would buy my 80-200 and my 16-50 I would buy yours.
Sorry didn't mean to steal this thread.

Yes I am the one selling 70200G and 70400G (both sold already). I used to have Sigma 50-150 only sold it for CZ 135/1.8. I sometimes have seller remorse because the Sigma was a very handy lens for me. Also, my Tamron 70-300 USD is the least used lens in my bag. It doesn't have enough reach as 70400G and not as fast as 70200G. OTOH 1680 is a perfect walkaround lens which is great for more than casual landscape shooting. Cheers and happy new year!

I was a little disappointed that Sony's new F2.8 lens was "only" 16-50 as 50mm often falls just a touch short for some applications like close-up style portraits. I reckon a G-series 16-80 (or even 16-105) F2.8 would be a wonderful lens to have.

I guess we can all dream?..but a faster 16-105 would be something special

Since we're imagining then how about giving it a max arpeture range of 2.8 @ 18mm to F4 @ 270? Even if it was twice the cost of the current model it'd be well worth the money.

Couldn't agree more Ray. I sure would like a G at the low end of Sony lenses.
I want the A77 so badly I am about to sell my Minolta 28-70mm G.
This is a great lens, but I use the 18-250mm a lot more down low.
Come on Sony give us a great G lens to blow us away please.

I thought I would miss the extra 25mm on the 16-50 (compared to my 28-75) but frankly with the extreme AF accuracy and center sharpness of the 16-50, combined with 16MP a55, I can crop away and get great close-ups. I'm skipping this A77 generation but in another year or 2 I will welcome the additional "reach" of a 24MP sensor that this lens affords. This is a hobby so I don't worry too much about huge prints done this way...I would switch to the 70-200 for that anyway if I were a "pro".
