When I purchase Apuracture or Lightroom down the road do I have the option to have photo's from my P7100 load into Apurature/Lightroom and photo's from my other half load into iphoto ??? And if so ....how ????

do you mean as an ongoing workflow or as a first time to get the images into Aperture/LR?

I'd STRONGLY suggest committing to either Ap/LR or iPhoto but not both. It'll be a nightmare.

If you mean with 'other half' your significant other (ie, a different set of images), this is of course possible. You'll most likely want to switch off the automatic opening of Aperture/Lightroom and iPhoto when inserting a memory card or connecting a camera. But if you use different cameras, you can set different actions for different cameras (ie, launch iPhoto when camera A is connected and launch Aperture when camera B is connected) in Image Capture.

Not sure, but I think you meant "other (camera) has" loaded into iPhoto. If you get Aperture in particular, yes, you can set it in preferences to open up the Import dialogue and import images directly from your camera. Also, Aperture can share the images you already have in iPhoto or automatically move them into an Aperture Library. If you choose Lightroom instead, you can also set it to open it's import dialogue when you connect your camera or card reader. But in order to move your current iPhoto images over, you will have to "export" them and then re-import them. And they will lose whatever adjustments you have made in iPhoto.

Only my opinion. It's worth what you paid for it. Your mileage may vary! ;-}

Sorry for not being clear. Linda and I share a laptop. I do not worry about photo's that are currently on iphoto. If when I purchase lightroom 3 or aperture 3 I would want ONLY my photpgraghs from My camera to be stored/processed by lightroom/aperture. The best prices I can find are @$200 for either one. Anyone know of anything better ???

Oh, no problem. I'm a LR user and it only imports what you tell it to import and when you want to import it so there will not be any mixing up of those two sets of images.

You can sometimes find LR for $150 but those often come around on Thanksgiving -> Christmas :(

If you know a college kid or faculty, there is often outstanding academic pricing.

Aperture is $80 in the Mac App Store.

In another thread Bob has told me that it is a 15" MBP but nothing about the vintage. He is using iPhoto '09 so Snow Leopard is likely - though it could be Leopard.

Anyway the amount of memory is also important.

You might consider having Linda create her own OSX log in. That way no matter what program she uses to import photos her Library(ies) will be separate from yours.
