Hi,

I have not posted here in a while.. but I have been accumulating quality legacy lenses for a while now. Eagerly waiting for Nex 7. Of all the lenses I have, my favorites are Pentax SMC 50 f/1.4, Minolta rokkor 100 f/2.5, Sigma ultrawide 24mm f/2.8 and recently picked up a Minolta MD 200 f/2.8 lens. This is a great piece of glass too..

Here are some images taken only using legacy lenses. Hope this thread will help some of you to narrow down your search for quality legacy lenses to use with Nex 7 or 5n.

BTW, these photos were taken with the old, now ancient Nex 5.

Now, Amazon.. please send me my Nex 7 I ordered on Aug 24th.

1. Amazing shots, I'll be using only legacy glass on my 7 when it arrives as well. All Nikon mount: 18-70 f/3.5-4 (all around lens), 50mm f/2 AI, Tokina 80-200 f/2.8.

2. Good luck getting yours, I've heard nothing out of the pipeline for Amazon delivering pre-orders. Probably because Sony is angry that Amazon stiffed them. When you search for the 5n (when low/out of stock) or the 7, Amazon will actually suggest you go ahead and just buy a micro 4/3 camera instead of pre-ordering/waiting. That's a low blow Amazon. A really low blow.

Pre-ordered mine (with kit lens to sell) from Abt I think on Dec. 18th. Called them a few days ago, still expecting to ship it out in January.

Good luck man.

Wow, really nice shots. It would be nice if you identified which lens you use for each shot in case someone would be interested in also getting the same legacy lenses.

+1

Great shots... I'm lucky enough to have the NEX-7 and I love shooting again with manual focus and apterure perfered. I have three Sony NEX lenses 16mm, 18-55mm and the 30mm Macro but find myself shooting with a old Konica 40mm f1.8. Once you get the NEX-7 set up for your type of shooting manual focusing and using the peaking function through the viewfinder really is enjoyable shooting experience.

Great shots!

I also pre-ordered a 7 with no E mount lenses, I'll be using mostly FD, FL, Rokkors, and rangefinder glass on it.

that's for sure

Thanks Everyone for the comments.
It is difficult to remember what I used where, here is my best guess:

great stuff! the only thing that worries me (in general) is what sort of guide do you have for a manual lens safely on an NEX? I mean, with the lens & mount adapter you can easily get to 1-2 pounds (.5-1 kilogram) --- which seems already over the top for any NEX which is much smaller than the lens?

Actually all of the legacy lenses are smaller than their newer counterparts at the same focal length and max aperture.

My biggest/heaviest lens is the Minolta md 200 f2.8. Even that lens is roughly the same size and weight as the Sony 18-200 lens.

So no matter how you look at the configuration of a nex camera and a lens at a given focal length and max aperture, it is still going to be a whole lot lighter than a dslr with similar lenses. I also have a 5d mk2 with lenses upto 200mm, so I can easily see and feel the difference.

I have no issues handholding these lenses and all the photos shown above were taken hand held only. I think with a viewfinder it will be much more stable, so I am eagerly waiting to use these lenses on the Nex 7 whenever it comes from Amazon.

Btw, for your heaviest (or all) lenses, what adapter are you using? How does it feel regarding build quality, performance, and the "play" between lens, adapter, and mount?

Sorry about the late response..

I have tried both Rainbow Imaging and Fotodiosk adapters and I like Fotodiosk better for heavier glasses because they include a tripod collar on the adapter itself. I have not noticed any play with Fotodiosk adapters, however my Rainbow imaging adapter has the play between the adapter and the lens - only for the Pentax mount.

Hope this helps.

It does help, thanks. :D

One thing I can't figure out is the difference between Fotodiox's regular and pro adapters (for Nikon mount at least), besides the regular having an aperture ring, and the other not. Contacted Fotodiox, and they said that they're working on a Pro adapter with an aperture control ring, so I have no idea.

May be they are working on an adapter with aperture ring for regular af lenses with no manual control. For legacy lenses, their normal adapter is plenty good.

That's why I'm wondering, because the pro adapter they currently have will only function correctly with a full manual F mount lens, which I have 2 of. The regular has the aperture control for G lenses (says it also works with F lenses), which I have 1 of. Odd that the adapter that can function with more lenses is cheaper and not the pro version. HUH?????
