Heres an odd quesiton for you guys. I searched but couldnt find anything relating to this..

Say I've taken a few photos on my 7i and then turn the camera off. If I go to turn it on to either Playback or Transfer mode, I get a message "Unable to use card".

I've found that by pausing for a few seconds on the "Record" (the camera picture) function and then switching it over from there to Playback or transfer, it then sees everything on the card just fine.

Is this normal? Is there a procedure that I dont know about for turning the camera on? Am I just losing my mind? :)

"How to turn on and off your 7i for fun and profit...."

I have a 7i and it doesn't do what you describe. Try using your original or another flashcard.

Its strange.. it did it a quite a few times when I first got it.. just tried it now about 10 times and it seems fine. Mabye the card isnt fully seated or something. When it works, it works fine.

Mabye my camera was just grumpy. :)

For what it is worth, I also have a Viking 512 card and get the same error message you describe. Not sure if the card is bad or if it is a compatibility issue.

Let me know what you find out

Will Do.. I'm going to pick up another 512mb CF card of a different brand next month to see how it works in comparison. Could be that the Viking just has a slight compatibility problem?

Anyone else with the Viking 512mb having this sort of problem on occasion?

My new Viking 256 card has made it in the mail, so I'll try it out this weekend and give you my report.

Can anyone else shed some light?

I have the same problem. It happens irregularly, though...
The message comes up 1 out of 10 times of inserting the memory.
My 7i firmware version is 1.10u, and I'm using Viking 512mb, too.

John,

I've had the exact same problem like you I have a Viking 512 MB card. I tried reformatting it to see if that helps....so far it hasn't shown up again.
