Mobius Arch

Thank you Barb :)

The camera is already at Nikon waiting to be looked at.

But, it was delayed for 5 days at the post office because the FW's "lost" it and didn't send it to it's destination.
Stunning shots one and all Mark. think I like the light painted one the best....it almost seems "life like" in the first shot and the colours are much more noticeable out of the harsh desert light of day.

I am sorry to hear your camera had a fall. I hope it is not too serious and able to be fixed. Will you have to rely on the London Donkey Train or will you wait until after Christmas to send it off to Nikon??
Cheers
Barb

Very nicely done,

I know I would frame this one even tighter, look at a normal monitor size, the tiny size I posted distorts it.

but that is just a concept coming out to me.

I would get lower in the night shot opening the sky a little more in the rock window, and would include a touch more of the arch at the bottom.
Btw, the LED Lenser (HR7) torch is with me everywhere, great torches..

strong image.
thanks for sharing,

Hynek

Mark, nice job with the arch and thanks for the education! I have at least 20 to 30 different shots of this arch at various times of the year and never knew it had a name! I live in the San Francisco area of California and fly down to Lone Pine 2 to 3 time a year just to shoot. In fact I am going again over New Years.

I'm sure if you were there that you know the history of the Alabama Hills and how this area was used in the filming of any number of old Westerns and still used today to film a lot of commercials because it is so unique and photogenic. Did you continue up the road to the base of the hiking trial to the top of Mt. Whitney? Also, did you get a chance to go further up hiway 395 towards Bishop and Mammoth? There are incredible Landscape opportunities in most of the canyons west of 395. In fact, Galen Rowel liked the area so much he opened a studio and Gallery in Bishop and they still conduct Photo Classes out of the Gallery.

I always enjoy your work, but especially liked these as I am familiar with the area and lighting conditions and how difficult it is to get a really good exposure out there. Nice Job!

Thank you Sir, great advice :)

I agree with you left hand side crop, but cropping the top seems too tight.

Thank you Tony :)

I'll be honest and say I didn't know much about the Hills, I don't really read up on location history.
I just look for interesting locations, take the shot and PP it.

No, I visited from Death Valley, just for 1 night, before head East again.
I've visited that area before though.

Originally, I was going to visit that area, Yosemite and up to Lake Tahoe and finally ending up in L.A. but I changed my mind.

Enjoy your shoot at the Arch :)

Mark this "LED Lenser 8407"...is it the same as this on Amazon.ca

http://www.amazon.ca/Coast-Lenser-Focusing-Flashlight-Hardware/dp/B003FXD3DU/ref=sr_1_2?s=miscellaneous&ie=UTF8&qid=1324249081&sr=1-2

We are not able to order from amazon.uk so was looking for a Canadian Supplier

Mobius Arch, near Lone Pine, California.

At the time I tried to figure out where the multi exposure setting was on the camera.
But, I'd never used it before, so I couldn't find it.

I ended up taking 8 to 10 shots and combining later, I used the "LED Lenser 8407" torch (awesome by the way).

Thank you for looking :)

Barb,

No, that's a different torch/flashlight.

That one looks to be not quite as powerful and it holds 3 batteries instead of 4.

"8407" manufactures site.

"8607" manufactures site.

I don't think the 8607 allows you to focus the beam either.

Maybe it's worth contacting support via email to ask about where to buy in Canada.
