A77 - "beats its _main rivals", "it outperforms the competition"

I'm loving my a77... is it better than it's competition? I don't care. People should stop putting in so much damn effort or stress out about how Sony measures up and just enjoy... go out and shoot.

It seems like people get too caught up with all these reviews and specs, comparisons. Reminds me of how car guys are... they argue and debate about which is better, the Porsche GT3 or Nissan GT-R... but in the end, most of those people won't drive the way a test driver will and push the cars to it's limit. Only a clock and tell the difference. I say enjoy what you got, don't worry about what's on "the other side of the fence" .

It is a new review so why are you trying to censor me? It is a Sony DSLR forum and it is Sony DSLR related review!

As long as posters keep it clean and stick to the OP, no issues at all!
But it begs the question... WHY do you feel the need to keep praising this camera? We already know it's a good camera. What do you hope to gain by posting these reviews and continuously praising it up? Help me understand your way of thinking; I just don't get where you are headed with all this stuff which you can surely see for yourself is (oddly) causing people to turn on each other. I don't know... to me, it just seems pointless.

I LOVE my old Pontiac Bonneville, but I don't plan to make a career out of constantly going on and on and on about it on an internet forum. Either someone likes it or they don't. What difference could it possibly make to you, whether Joe Blow loves this camera or hates it? Just seems weird that you appear to thrive on this stuff, rather than just being happy with it, and getting out and shooting with it.

I love my Triumph Bonneville Scrambler 900cc , I feel the need to tell you all about it, day after day , after Day, after ........ oh never mind ;-)

It is yes. Unless you use the adapter. Then you have the same light loss. So the Nex cameras do have a small low light lead but only if you can manage to get by with E mount lenses.

This is actually the perfectly appropriate place for him to post as many reviews on the Sony cam as he wants. This IS after all the Sony SLT forum. I honestly don't understand the people who take issue with it.

If BMX did not have other super annoying posting habits people wouldn't complain so much about it I don't think.

Clearly he has violated forum policy by posting a review on a Sony SLT camera in the Sony SLT forum and needs to be banned. How did you not come to the same conclusion! sarcasm

It doesn't bother me one bit, I just wish BMX did not feel the need to editorialize when he posts his reviews. Barring that I really really wish he didn't feel the need to get into arguments in the threads and bait/feed the people he considers trolls.

He does the same on Off Topic Forum ;-)

Nikon D3s

Nikon D7000

Canon 7D

Sony A77

Since the launch of "Photography Blog", only Nikon D3s got the "Essential Award", now, there are two of them!

A77 - it is worth every penny!

Good info, thanks.

Okay, enough people.

If you don't like the review, please state your points. BUT, there are no reasons for personal attack. I own a65 and don't mind knowing about the reviews, positive or otherwise, as I hope to learn from them.
Thanks!

Hughesnet, my apology but I had to pre emp them because it is pretty obvious they will hijack this thread. However, they are behaving so I will keep it shorter next time.

Thanks, I now have a massive hard on thinking about the A-77, in fact a 5 star hard on ! ;-)

This was a link I found through the comments on Sonyalpharumors.com. I don't understand Danish, but the pictures he posts are pretty compelling in demonstrating ISO at 6400.

Adam, IMHO there is a flaw in this: he suggests you should over-expose when using high ISO, but when you are actually able to over-expose a shot then you might as well lower the ISO. The problem is usually that you have already the slowest shutter speed that you can get away with, with widest aperture, so there is no room for you to over expose the shot or your shutter speed would become longer and you would not be able to i.e. do sports shooting hand held. Yes, if you are able to over-expose then this will always give you better results!
Stef.

P.S. I don't mind the OP posting good/bad reviews about Sony or in fact any camera. I also read the ones from Canikon and find it interesting to see what is good and bad about new cameras, either the ones I own or the ones I might be contemplating about owning.

This is the part I like best after all the complaints on high ISO performance. The only bad high ISO performance I have found is that the A77 doesn't beat the A900 ...
I know you are a great Sony advocate, but surely you don't believe noise free through ISO1600....or do you?
I didn't think so!

The report's authors, at the University of California, Santa Barbara, also found evidence that crowdsourcing sites in the U.S. are similarly dominated by ethically questionable jobs. They conclude that the rapid growth of this way of making money will make paid shills a serious security problem for websites and those who use them around the world.

When he and colleagues investigated the source of that activity, the team was surprised by what it found, says Zhao: "Evil crowdsourcing on a very large scale." Influencing public opinion with fake "grassroots" activity is known as astroturfing, leading Zhao to coin the term "crowdturfing," since it is done via large crowdsourcing sites.

The researchers discovered that a large amount of the suspect activity in China originated from two crowdsourcing sites: Zhubajie, the largest in China, and Sandaha. There, people are openly offered the equivalent of tens of cents to do things like create accounts on particular sites, post biased answers about specific products on Q&A sites, and create and spread positive messages about products on social networks.

I'll be a billionaire now if I am getting paid by Sony. Just a fan...

Hey BM? What about awards? Does the Sony get any awards? Have you got a magazine with a picture to show us?

I know what would make it all better. How about showing a magazine with the Sony on the cover and then jump up and down saying that it's the best camera of the year!

LOL!

Madness is when you start talking about the a77 EVF lag but you've never used the camera once.

Comparing the D3S with the A77 is kind of like comparing apples & oranges. I owned and used the A77 with a Sony 70-400 for about 2 weeks before returning the A77. I kept the 70-400 to use on my A580, a very under rated DSLR. I bought the A77 due to its high pixel count, fast frame rate, and greatly improved EVF. Yes, the images were extremely high resolution with beautiful color saturation. Just gorgeous. However, I bought the A77 to shoot sports with the 70-400. I simply couldn't get comfortable with the EVF showing the prior image when panning erratically moving subjects. Also, since the A77 won't even approach the advertised FPS unless the subject is standing still, this was a deal breaker. Finally, while the EVF is much improved, it still is not precise enough for focusing on detailed subjects compared to an OVF. I am hoping that Sony will introduce another model with OVF instead of EVF and improved auto focus while panning fast moving subjects. If they do, I'll be one of the first to sign up. (I've made the points above in prior posts so I'm hoping someone from Sony is listening to those customers that prefer an OVF.)
