Blooming on D7000

I took these pics a moment ago with my Nikon D7000. Don't these pics suffer from the same blooming issue as the X10?

Change all of the lights in those images to perfect ping pong ball sized hole punches, and you've got the orb-effect.

Edit: they might not always be perfectly round, but you get the idea. They extend the bounds of the actual light source by quite a margin, and usually have sharp edges, and look quite unnatural.

Cheers,

In this particular instance the orb effect is present but not extreme - not compared to what it can be. But 'not that much worse' is hardly a benchmark for a premium-priced camera.

Several posters have tried to demonstrate that other cameras do the same thing, but they just don't. There is a problem. Fuji will hopefully fix it.

Art is far superior to "artsy".

This is a good example to place this issue in perspective, Fuji don't have to do much to get to what could be considered "normal".

No they are not much different at all and look perfectly acceptable, a good comparison.

In this image maybe there is not much to do. But there have been many images posted that looked downright awful . Totally, and completely unacceptable. I'm $600 heavier now, sitting in the Hong Kong airport. I came, I saw, I refused to take part in Fuji's latest product introduction fiasco. My wife will now have a Canon camera, not a Fuji thanks to this white orb idiocy.

This is not even close to normal ... these are orbs

This is the worst exposure on the D7000 and it is not even close to the Fujifilm orbation

I am not a photographer, I am just a guy that takes pictures.

The x10 does really well against the d7000 for image quality in your examples PJ, even better than I would have expected. Kindest regards. :-)

PJ, thanks for posting the samples. Looks like I won’t have to haul my DSLR equipment around everywhere this Christmas and the x10 will do quite well.

Just curious, the X10 photo of the Christmas tree shot at f4.5 appear to be much better than those shot at f2.2 (with respect to orbs)- is the aperture setting a factor at all in this situation?

Anything that cuts down the actual amount of light hitting the sensor can have an effect. There is a threshold of total light at which the sensor will create ORBs .... very much like a threshold of speed at which a rocket will send a satellite into ORBit ...

I find it rather comical when these paid to post doom and gloomers are left scrambling for excuses once presented with samples from other cameras.
