I posted this in the MFT forum but I believe it wil appeal to Leica folks as well....

While walking through a local mall I came across a store that caters to AirSoft enthusiast and those who like to wear military or law enforcement type clothing and accesories. I saw a number of bags haning on the wall and walked over to check them out. One in particualr caught my eye and it dawned on me that it would be the perfect bag for my GF1 system or Leica system.

The bag is extremely comfortable and is designed in such a way that you can wear it across your shoulder or just hanging from your shoulder.. I prefer across your should mode.

Here is a picture of the bag and a list of what it holds for me. The bag has no internal padding but the Domke insert fits perfectly and provides all the padding I need.

Here is a link to a website with more info about the Push Pack: http://www.511tactical.com/browse/Home/Law-Enforcement/Accessories/Bags-Backpacks/PUSH-Pack/D/30100/P/1:100:10000:10900:10905/I/56037

And here is a link to the Domke insert on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Domke-720-220-Compartment-Insert-Green/dp/B00009R877

Here's a link to video about the Push Pack on You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxqcLZ1_Bbs

Some of you may not find this setup to your liking but for me, it is perfect. Very small and compact (just like MFT or Leica) and very well made. This would also be a great bag for those using Leica gear such as the M8/9.. with plenty of room for some extra lenses. I love the construction and design of this bag.

I have no affiliation with any of the makers of these products but I do find it to be a great camera bag even though that is not its purpose. Just wanted to share what I feel is a very good find with you.

The ability to 'see' the shot is more important than the gear used to capture it.

Hi Jim,
Great find.
Have you seen this site?

every day carry--many choices for carrying gear.

I carry too much stuff. I'm either on a construction site, or in an office environment. I'm either over-dressed for one, or under-dressed for the other...

Your bag would be great. I'll take a look.

In the meantime, i wear a scottevest vest regularly. keeps me sane rushing about; I don't forget stuff. I'll carry a pany ZS3 or g11 in a pocket and never know it.

My latest edc bag is a Lowepro Classified 100AW. Seemed like a lot to spend, but it comes with 2 little camera bags. The small one fits my G11 very well. The other one has a divider in it; with it in I carry my ZS3 and batteries.

I've used a Tenba messenger bag when I need to carry my dslr and a lens or two.

And I confess looking at ebay in case I find a Billingham...

No, I have not but I'll check it out.

I have a Hadley but bought this new back for my upcoming California trip. I need to be able to pack it all and do so in a small package. The Hadley would not hold everything nor is it as comfortable as this Push Pack.

Jim, This is a great find! I've researched a lot about camera bags and this one has showed up. It seems to be really functional and to have plenty of pockets.

Do you know it has a pocket that could fit an iPad in it? That would make it perfect for traveling. I don't plan buying a camera bag as of now because I got a very good deal on a brand new Billigham Alice (L2) for 99 bucks not long ago. It fits my gear and an iPad.

But you know, the quest for the perfect camera bag is almost as big as the quest for the perfect camera!

Thanks Jim.

I haven't made it to a store yet. However, there is a Cdn distributor of Maxpedition equipment somewhere in Toronto. I intend to visit there. They're a competitor of the brand you've shown here and have similarly configured bags.

I use an everyday carry bag, every day. I load it up with essentials...including my camera of choice.

I've tried a bunch of bags. Yours would be a better choice for me than the ones I've selected myself.

Mountain Equipment Co-op is here in Canada. I've used several of their bags. Usually the strap is a problem. (It slides off my shoulder).

I had a LowePro bag, configured like a messenger bag. It was pretty good, once I improved the strap. Concern? It wasn't an all-weather bag.

One concern for me is price. I get used to seeing prices online and find that the Cdn price is marked up a lot. A think tank bag that sells for $149 in the US is $210 here.

Look forward to seeing photos from your California trip!!

I have that bag and use if for field recording. I put an Edirol R-44 4 channel digital recorder in the main compartment, and use the "water bottle" pouches on each side for mics -- a stereo mic in one, and a short shotgun in the other, both with dead cats attached. Cables, pistol grips, and other goodies get distributed around in other locations in the PUSH Pack.

However, I was looking for something that would take a Leica and 5 or 6 lenses...And some recording gear. I was looking for a bag that would handle two of those Domke inserts in the main compartment, and then have additional storage. (My usual photo-only bag is a Domke F-803, which takes two double cell inserts.)

Enter Maxpedition: http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/Versipacks-c4.htm

The link is for their Versipacks. 5.11 Tactical offers basically one size bag, while Maxpedition offers several. Maxpedition also offers several bags with a choice of left-side or right-side carry.

The model that showed up on my doorstep just this week is the Versipack Mongo-S. It does take two of the Domke double cell inserts in the main compartment, with lots of storage options in other compartments. I'm going on a business trip this week and am thinking of trying the Mongo instead of the 5.11 RUSH 12 that I usually fly with.

BTW...For great travel trousers, try the 5.11 Taclite Pro. They are cotton/poly ripstop, so the seams and edges of the pockets don't puff out as much. In dark colors at a distance, they don't even look like cargo pants. I had a local tailor add a zipper under each velcroed flap of the cargo pockets to make them more secure.

5.11 makes lots of really good stuff, but for this style of bag, Maxpedition has a much better selection.

The reason I appreciate Jim's post is the cost.

Maxpedition must be made of gold here in Canada. Just like Domke, and Think Tank. :( And cars. And tires.

I wish we didn't call our currency the dollar. When we get near par I get hoping that the cost will be the same. but it's not. A Think Tank bag that lists for $159 in the US costs $219 here, and is still on the vendor's shelf.

I do appreciate your post. It's good to have choices.

Nice bag but too conspicuously "Tacticle" and Swat- looking.

About every 20 minutes on the subways her there is an announcement that Police can randomly search bags and packages. This looks like a big Search-Me flag in my mind.
Definitely an attention getter.

It also looks like a great bag for cameras.

I find the Domke reporter sachel small, roomy enough for a book and 2cameras and ordinary to the point of being dull to the eye.

That does look like a nice shooting bag, Jim! I don't know about it being an "inconspicuous all around carryall" though. It's cheap enough that it might we worth experimenting with.

I haven't found anything better than the Artist & Artisan ACAM 7100 (or the Black Label Oskar's Day Bag II, which was based on it. I have one of each now). Since I bought the Black Label bag, I've used practically nothing else.

On my three week trip to the British Isles this year it held:
  • Ricoh GXR fitted with M-bayone camera unit
  • 21, 40, 90 and pinhole lenses
  • polarizer and ND filters
  • spare memory cards and batteries
  • battery charger, remote cable, lens cleaning cloth and blower
  • iPad 2 in DODOcase
  • iPad 2 charger and cable
  • Camera Connection Kit
  • wallet, cell phone, sunglasses, travel papers, iPod Touch, pens, small notebook
It carried, in short, every single thing I needed for photography, writing, and communications except for an Apple Wireless Keyboard, which I stuffed into an InCase case (also works as an iPad stand) and tossed into my checked luggage with my clothes. (I also didn't carry a tripod as I knew I could borrow one at my destination.)

I have two of these now as I tend to keep the GXR kit and the Leica M kits ready to go, packed separately one in each bag. I've also carried both cameras and a selection of three-four lenses in one of them, dumping out some of the other stuff.

Photographers are almost always bag mavens. ;-)

Jim, is the bag worn across the chest? In that case, it cannot be worn with some clothes . Also, it is not very convenient for left-handed people.
