I've got the focus set to the single Area mode it shows a white box which tuns green and beeps as an in focus confirmation, on half press occasionaly I get a green box but no beep is that a glitch or does it mean anything else?

Does your camera have Silent Mode enabled?

Mine does that a lot, if I don't hear the beep I re-focus until I do. There's no way you could use the X10 in silent mode and get all your pictures in focus.

I've also noticed there are days when the camera doesn't come on when the lens is turned and I have to do it 3 or 4 times before it comes on. Then on another day it will never happen!

No it beeps most of the time.

Yup same problem here, noticed it when i first received the camera. From what I've seen, no focus beep means the camera hasn't acquired focus. I believe it's a software bug. Kinda amazing how many bugs fujifilm leaves in its firmwares.

That wouldn't be a software bug. Maybe, if silent mode is not enabled, you either have:

1) No focus, in which case you don't want a beep;

2) A faulty camera, if the green focus indicator is lit, and the focus square or cross point is also green.

My camera works flawlessly - send yours back and get another one.

Or, in other words, I haven't found any software bugs in my X10.

same happened to mine the first few days, but seems to be working now.

In silent mode the focus box turns green when focused and the LED shows a steady green light ; no problem there.

Outside silent mode there is a blip sound when in focus that I've set to maximum volume using set up/ operational.vol menu item.

It happens to mine too, it's really annoying!

Like you do, I refocus till I hear the beep, but I wonder if it's necessary..

It's really annoying to have it indicate an unfocused picture?

As far as I can see on mine it won't display a steady green focus light, or green square or cross hairs, if it's not in focus, and at the same time it doesn't beep, either.

I cannot understand anyone finding that behaviour strange or undesirable...you can still take an unfocused pic if you like.

The green light will also still blink when focus is locked if there is a problem with exposure or potentially, some unwanted blur from too low a shutter speed.

No, it's annoying seeing the green square indicating a focused picture, but not hearing the beep.

Yes especially when you can see the image in the LCD with the green square is out of focus.

So far I've had the on/of switch malfunction, focus problem and have the orbs to lookfoward to,

I sold my S95 which was fantastic to buy the X10 I'm now wondering If I made the right decision,

I still have time to return it to Amazon, pre ordered when the price went down to £428 for about a day, the Canon S100 is starting to look quite attractive OVF or not

I don't think you're understanding what's happening.

First, lets assume you are not in silent mode. This means you will hear a "beep" when the camera achieves focus. Along with this, in the LCD screen you will see the focus box turn green.

Now, sometimes the camera will show a green focus confirmation box and it will NOT beep. From what I've experienced, this means that the camera has not actually achieved focus.

If you are working in silent mode though, then you are relying on the the green focus confirmation box to till you the camera is in focus. This means the camera will occassionally tell you the camera is in focus when it actually isn't. That is a problem.

As far as the led confirmation light, I haven't been paying attention to it when this software bug happens. And it is a software bug.

I'm sure DPReview will list some of the bugs they find, including this one.

With no disrespect intended, could the bleep problem be a hearing problem. I know that sometimes people do hear the bleep, but it may depend on where the ear is in relation to the camera. i.e. I often hear bleeps from one angle, but not from another.

With the X10 focusing:
I have had the green box and no beep
The green box and a single ‘bip’
The typical green box and a ‘ beep-p’

The green box and beep-p + steady green light and totally oof image (even showing oof in LCD)

I was concerned at first and even made notations as to the image shot, the result and the AF indicators.
I should have done it several times to confirm but didn’t….from my notes
If green box and no beep the exif indicated bad af
If green box and ‘bip’ exif indicated bad focus

If green box + beep + steady light exif indicated good focus (even though I had some that obviously were way oof

If green box and any sound but with blinking green light always indicated blurr warning

I hope this doesn’t confuse the issue…my feeling are that the warnings fuji is offering are not quite ready for prime time.
