which I've had for quite some time. Used it on my a700 also.

I use the A55 and a 18-250mm HSM, works fine except in auto+ mode it always registers as a macro setting no matter what the situation. Not really a problem but it doesn't seem correct. I questioned it with Sigma and they said it wasn't a know fault.

In all other modes the focus locks and there are no issues

What about older Sigma lenses? I have a 24mm f/2.8 AF Super Wide 11 Sigma that works fine on my A700, but doesn't function at all on my A77.

I had a Sigma 17-70 DC Macro(no OS) that had the sticking aperture problem with my A55, Sigma resolved it for free. Sold it since then. Now I have a Sigma 90mm 2.8 macro that works fine. Also have a Sigma 18-250 but this one has the SLT compatible sticker on the box and works fine.

I am actually surprised, seems like there are much fewer incompatibility issues with Sigma lenses and Sony SLT cameras then I had expected. My major gripe is that the EXIF data does not show up correctly! Too bad Sigma and Sony can't work together to fix this minor problem.

My a77 has been delivered to my mom's house in California, but I'm still in Canada for a couple more weeks. I was curious about my Sigma lenses so yesterday I took all four of them to a local Sony Style store to test them on an a65 demo. This is what happened:

No problems with: 70-200 HSM II, 24-70 HSM, 50 f1.4,

Problems with: 85 f1.4

Note: my 50 is the older version with the textured finish, yet I know someone with the newer version and he had issues with it and his a77. And my 85 is also a newer version

As others have commented and I was beginning to suspect there seem plenty of working lenses that appear on the compatibility warning list. So far there is not record of any damage to cameras... only that some lenses don't work fully.

As the Sigma upgrade is not free for older Sigma lenses bough secondhand in the UK that is helpful when considering second hand purchases. Sigma UK state the following:

If the lens is under a year old there will be no charge if the lens is older please see the following:

1: £5.00 per lens if you have proof of purchase for the lens from new which is to cover return p&p.

2: £37.99 per lens if you have no proof of purchase which is to cover the cost of Admin and postage.

Thanks everyone and I hope this has been helpful...no guarantees of course, but there is certainly a chance that many lenses may operate fine...but HSM versions may be more of an issue, but probably mostly fairly recent and hence mostly bought new.

Cheers,

Paul

A77 10 -20mm f4-5.6 DC EX - Worked fine NO ISSUES

A77 50 mm F1.4 EX DG HSM - Juddery focus on HSM (Not RIGHT)

A77 24 -70 f2.8 HSM - Worked fine NO ISSUES

Sent the 50mm & the 24-70mm to Sigma UK for FREE re-chipping as I had the paypal receipt and guarantee card and they were both on the recall list.

Received both lenses back within 2 weeks - Both work fine now - Very quick HSM performance.

PROBLEM - both lenses are recognised as the same lens when using micro-adjustment.
24 -70 f2.8 HSM requires +10 correction.

when putting 50mm lens on, the same +10 correction is set on the camera! Doh

Not the case for the 10-20 - It is set to 0

A65 with Sigma 10-20 will backfocus badly, worked OK on my A55. It's at Gentec getting the firmware update.

Tried in a store yesterday th Sigma 18-250 that had the a33/a55 compatible sticker on, tried it on my own a65 body and it would not focus (it would hunt but no focus lock)I'm on a short trip out of my home town so I did not buy it, but I'll buy it once I get back home and take it straight to Gentec for the firmware upgrade.

update - just picked up a second hand 50-150 2.8 hsm - no a55 support sticker on the box but owner was using fine on a55 - works with a77 too, no apparent issues.
