An Interforum Challenge, whaddaya think?

First, had I read your entire message when I wasn't half asleep, I would've realized you are a Oly native :-)

I guess if the Oly / Sony challenge is successful, other's may be tempted to join for future inter-forum challenge :-)

For me, the most interesting part of the challenge is seeing how far photographers can push the limits of their respective cameras.... regardless of their sticker price they paid.

Looking forward to this one!

I welcome the challenge !! Why just Olympus ?
Why not Canon as well or ?? Maybe Canon because we're inundated
with people telling us the D30 or D60 is the end of all digicams....
Let's show them what our Sony's can do !!!! (for less) :-)
.... I was hoping to start small and see how it goes, LOL! but I
do like your spirit! -- LC

Yes, I will join as well, sounds like fun.

Can't offer any other assistance though, it will be my first day back home after a holiday, so I would not be able to prepare anything.

But I should be able to find time to participate .....

Hi All,

I am wondering if there is interest in an Interforum Challenge
between Sony Talk and Olympus Talk to occur after the current
Challenges end in both forums.

TOPIC: Wanting a theme that is broad enough to include everyone, I
propose: January 11th – A day in the life of our planet. (I had
originally thought Jan 1, since it is celebrated world wide, but
the challenges in both forums extend beyond that date, sigh )

HOW IT COULD WORK:
  • Entries made to the Interforum Challenge would be anonymous,
posted without photographer's name or camera type -- this would be
added after the voting. (Exif data would have to be removed from
each image.)
  • Entries would be submitted via email and placed in the gallery as
they are received (maybe they would include location.)
  • The gallery would be hidden throughout the day on Jan 11 and
revealed on Sunday, Jan. 12 for voting and comments.
  • Each participant could make 1 entry – of course, no Exhibition
gallery.
  • Each forum would have a coordinator, who would be responsible for
promoting the challenge and would assist with tallying the votes.
Both coordinators would have access to the gallery to monitor
participation.
  • I volunteer to do all the behind the scene works: create and
manage the gallery, maintain the email account, upload images, etc.
I currently maintain the Olympus Challenge site, and if there is
agreement, this interforum challenge could be hosted on the Oly
site (which is private – no public login)

This is all the thought I have given to this. I’m sharing this to
spur discussion. I am not fixed on any aspect other than it would
be fun to have an interforum challenge. I would be interested in
hearing your thoughts and comments. What do you think about the
concept, topic, timing, rules, etc? Do you have other suggestions?

Thank you for reading my ramblings and I look forward to hearing
your thoughts.

P.S. A thread with the same subject has been posted to the ---
forum if you would like to follow their discussion.

P.S.S. This was done on a much grander scale a few years ago at the
turn of the millennium

P.S.S.S. For those interested, here are the URLs to the Challenge
sites of both forums

I assume you will take worldwide timezones into account when running the challenge on Jan 11th, so each participant will have 24 hrs, but the total challenge will last 48 hrs ?

And same for the voting period ?

Looking at the Oly forum I'm very impressed. I think it the combination of the two forums will make a very creative team.
That sounds like a pretty good idea. I can't see why anyone
wouldn't want to do this.
It will be nice to see the work of other photographers, and to have
more creative input in the challenges.
... that is EXACTLY the point. I learn so much by viewing the works
of others. I must say, I have been impressed by the creative works
of members of this forum. I'm certain you will enjoy the creativity
of my friends at Oly. -- LC

Yes, it would take a total of 48 hours to give each timezone a 24 hour submission (and voting) period. Thanks. -- LC

... it seems that there is a good amount of enthusiasm for this, YES!

I plan to let things simmer through the holidays but will bring it to a boil again around the first of the year. I'm really looking forward to this. As others have suggested, I think it would be great fun to broaded the scope of this, at some point in the future, and include other camera makes. Wouldn't it be cool if we could get the camera manufactures to offer pizes!!! LOL!

Take Care, -- LC
