First GRDIV shots

Nice work! I've also been dabbling with the alternative B&W and color modes.

Andrew, I remember the first one now...thanks, great shots..... since you own both the lll and lV can you post some thoughts on how they compare, and if you have some shots of the same things, same times, same settings side by side I would be interested. Thanks

I just corrected my post - only one of those images was a GRD4. The other was the GRD3. Not really fair to compare since both were processed rather heavily.

I much prefer the GRD4. It seems snappier to use, and has a slightly better feel to it, including the buttons and grip. The images are crisper and the JPGs are better. The JPGs are so good I've started experimenting with the various modes.

Sorry Joel, but I'm not much in a camera testing mood these days. I'd rather just go take pictures for fun ;) But I'll keep posting observations.

Andrew, this post was very helpful.

thanks

All of the bleach bypass shots are JPEG's as I don't think these work in RAW (please correct me if this is false).

The Poppy shot and the Alleyway shot of mine were both processed using Camera RAW and were originally RAW files.

Thank you, I am not sure what you mean by beach bypass shots, is that a mode available to use, I never use them in the lll so do not know the answer to that. I would think if your camera is set to RAW they might be....you would know at download in any event. I always just download my raw shots.

Yes. And if I remember correctly, you have to first select a JPG quality level before you can select that mode. I don't have my camera with me so I cannot confirm, but I remember running into this the other day. I think the high contrast B&W is the same way.

I guess its self explanatory why you can't use modes such as Bleach Bypass in RAW - it isn't RAW data, it has been processed by the camera to create an effect.

Anyway another RAW file I have just processed. This was taken indoors. Really pleased with the sharpness (even though I have an annoying glare from the window on top of the tea box).

Any thoughts?

Did not think of that, of course they are jpeg. Thanks

Hello Graeme

yes the image is very sharp. as i have commented several times , such image with lettering is always a very good choice for test of a camera

Rioch update with the grIv was very smart. since there are no real improvements on sensors that size ,they decided to remove the alias filter which in my eyes is a Very significant improvement in any camera

i think all people here who use their gdr3 regularly should upgrade

A couple more, testing different aspects of the camera. I blew the sky out on the first shot, and the focus isn't too sharp on the second, but still learning with this camera.

Thanks,

Graeme

Had this camera a good few weeks now so have tested it in different environments. My flickr set of images is here:

This camera is an awesome street tool, and is excellent in most scenarios. One thing I am not too impressed with is its high ISO capabilities. I wasn't expecting much in this area though is it is a small sensor compact camera. Some of my images I posted on here before but let me know what you think of my set so far.
