I'm slowly catching on but in basic terms, what is an "Action"?1: i will soon be picking up a copy of PSE~2 does it use, need, want or bennifit from "Actions"? if so, proceed to #2. if not, skip 2 and go right to #3.2: i also plan to pick up the applicable "Dummies" book. A) will it explain the uses and methods regaurding "Actions"? B) would there be a better book to learn the finer points without getting too complex?3: Sorry to be such a @$#%-ing idiot, and as always, thanks for your time!!.ed.

--do you know what a "macros" is? It's like that. Also, if you're new to this forum "Hello" ! There's a wonderful Search and Find engine here so if you type in "Actions" or Photoshop Actions, you'll see a bunch of threads that will probably more than fill your head with info on Actions. Actions are recordings of steps we use to get to a particular end result. Once recorded and named, we can call upon this action to perform said task on one file or hundreds, while we go on our merry way drinking coffee and browsing the forums! Actions outperform humans in speed! Photoshop has a built in special palette where we create and store our actions. Photoshop also comes with special actions already written to perform certain tasks. You can also load actions that others have created. Many people here post actions that you can download and use. Welcome to the wonderful wacky world of digital imaging!

Can you give some examples of what you would use an 'action' to do for you? I understand the concept, am just wondering what you would use it to accomplish. Just got trial of Photoshop, and lost! Been using PhotoDraw for years and it is a whole 'nother bucket of apples.

Thanks!

Digicam...

So there's no mistake, "No, PSE 2 does not" support the actions you've probably been reading about in this forum. You need Photoshop if you want to run actions. Doesn't have to be PS7; could be PS6.

A "Dummies" book on PS won't supply much info on actions. Here's a couple websites where you'll learn more about actions than you probably want to know:

Best of the bunch, hands down:

Runnerup. Scroll down to the Photoshop section. This is a 3-part series.

Others that might be helpful:

http://www.actionfx.com/FAQ.shtml

Hope you've put the fire out in your left-handed pickle. Is that why you were sitting on the keyboard? :=)

Don't you know anything???
they are deathly afraid of the flaming pickle!!

if the fire goes out, they will come back. and then the "you know what" will start again!
is that what you would like to see happen?????

I Didn't Think So !!!!

Thanks for the quick answers.
guess i got my brain in a tizzy for nothing, since elements doesn't use them.

in elements, is there any way to repeat a "recipe" for an effect on other pics?? (other than batch jobs)

thanks again.

ed

p.s.

dont tell "them", but i actualy used a right-handed pickle turned 180* so it looks like a lefty. (real lefty's are just too expensive for my budget)

They are not very smart, so i dout they will figure it out, but you still need to keep an eye on them!!!
you know how they can be.!!!!
no need to take chances!

PS Element gurus: Need an answer to this one:

Don't know the answer to this one myself, so (by virtue of the title on this post) I'm calling for reinforcements. Somebody will come to the rescue.

RE: Your writing style and imagination

Among the most creative reply I've ever read. I'll bet your digitial images are creative, too!
