hi all , anyone got any tips on how to take a really warm pic, indoors ,of people moving without a....having to use the flash
b....getting blurred pics if i dont use a flash

i have being trying to capture "natural" shots of my kids doing thier everyday stuff but always end up with blurred pics unless i use the flash and then they loose all thier warmth ! the night setting using SP gives really warm shots of nonmovingscenes but alwy blur otherwise ! i have tried using a fast shutter speed in shutter priority auto which is really quick but the quicker i set it ...the darker the pic ! do i need to combine several settings in manual mode to get the perfect pic ??? if so, can anyone give me a hint at what i should set apperture setiing, shutter speed etc at to get this !!! any comments are much appreciated ..ta

Hi Craig .. you did not mention what camera..

anyhow assuming one of the 4900/6900/602 type - try largest aperture available to get lots of light in e.g. f2.8 and the highest ISO rating to get it plenty sensitive e.g. ISO800, then adjust shutter speed by checking the exposure against something like skin tone which you would want to be exposed ok .... try checking exposure with spot focus as (at least in 4900) this also checks exposure at that spot only ...

Then there is the fun of getting a decent focus and perhaps panning with the part of the child that you can keep up with :-)

Hope that helps ... for what its worth I am now trying these shots with a flash mounted on the camera (not the camera's own) and bouncing up and down again or off a wall somewhere , it allows much faster shutter speeds at more middle F stops and does not create those hard shadows that the on camera flash does ..

There are two or three ways to do this. One is to change the iso setting to let more light in. You will get visible noise if you use say the 1600 iso setting though.

My personal tip is to get an external flash unit. I know it costs money. However you can bounce the light of the ceiling for a more natural capture. It will keep the image warm and natural.

Hope that helps somewhat.

One trick is to turn on more lights. Another is to use bounce flash. If you do not have a strobe that can do this, you can place a busyness card at an angle in front of the built in flash to bounce it.
