Hello Everyone

Just wanted to inform some of you ( including Tom and Joel who have asked me) that I will be posting the first part of my hands on preview on the Fuji X10 this week end ( hopefully tomorrow)

I have found some MAJOR annoying quirks about this camera, including one that i have NEVER seen mentioned so far in any previews or anything and that is bothering me a lot

I am still trying to find a way to post this preview as I have not come around to finish creating my new review site but I will find a way , even if it is just a link from here

stay tuned

Thanks for your efforts Harold, I am personally not particularly inrested in the X10 as something for myself but am interested in reading about it as another's experiences.

I just got mine yesterday, so it will be very interesting to compare experiences. So far I find it faster to focus and shoot than the GRD III, and it is much more quiet, too. Image quality is still something I need work out, as I only shoot raw with the GRD and GXR but I haven't used a raw converter for the X10 yet. Looking forward to your post.

Look forward to your thoughts Harold. It seems that the X10 is one of those cameras whos reputation preceded it only to end up as just another camera.

I just sold my X100 so I'll be curious to hear what bothers you about the X10.

Looking forward to it, Harold. Especially seeing what this mysterious quirk is. It'll be good to see a hands-on opinion from a Ricoh user because someone coming from another maker might think some things are good which a Ricoh user might find irritating.

Not a Fuji thing, but I personally always find seeing Av and Tv on a mode dial highly annoying, for no other reason than I simply come from the PASM camp, but for others it's always been the norm. I'm curious as to how Pentax Ricoh will resolve this Gulliver egg-cracking difference between Pentax and Ricoh cameras now.

Hello everyone

Ok my preview of the X10 is now online in the products articles. I am trying to find a way to link it but cannot find it
you should also find it if you click on my name I would guess

I also posted some test images at high res but i am not sure if they are in the article .
Please let me know

feedback and comments are appreciated

Harold

Cool. First glance comment needs saying I think - paragraph breaks, please! Okay, I've got that off my chest, I'll go read it now. :)

Did you see any sign of the issue that was in a FTF thread the other day - where a small bright reflection is turned into a large round white spot? Look at this image in original size, for the reflection from the silver car and also on the glass globes by the flower planters along the street. This is more than just burnout of the image at a bright point.

Some FTF members tried to produce that effect on other cameras but they always picked a single extremely bright spot in a dark scene - the issue in this photo is on a sunny day. I've never seen anything like this:

Art is far superior to "artsy".

From Jim Radcliffe's review:

Cons:
[...]
AF sometimes indicates focus lock but the image is OOF

No doubt the X10 is a good compact, but that observation wears off my enthusiasm a bit.

Fuji is very good at providing firmware updates and not ignoring issues as many other companies do.
Hopefully this gets resolved in a firmware update soon...

I do not know why he wrote that there is no delete button on the back of the X10

there is one .

Harold
Harold, you are correct.. there is a delete button.. I somehow missed seeing the trashcan icon on the multi controller... I guess I was looking for a dedicated delte button. Thanks for pointing that out. I will correct that inaccuracy on my website. Another example of why everyone (including myself) should read the manual.

The ability to 'see' the shot is more important than the gear used to capture it.

It shouldn't.. even my 5D MKII missed sometimes.. my point was that if you use the OVF you will not notice the OOF shots until you review them. I always have to remember WHAT camera I am using and WHAT limitations it may have and then work within those limitations. After several days of using the X10 I am more impressed with it every day.

WRONG ! Fujifilm is terrible at providing firmware updates. Only recently with their X100 have they showed that they cared about their cameras. Before that their firmware updates for cameras such as the HS10 were for glaring mistakes that should never have seen the light of day at all.

I suspect that the X10 will get a reasonable amount of care but that remains to be seen. Many many cameras from Fuji never get even one update. Certainly nothing like Ricoh where features are added post sale.
Hopefully this gets resolved in a firmware update soon...
