A65 review is up

thank you for the review! but how does the A65 get a score of 78% and gets the Gold award while the A77 got 81% and got a Silver award?

Strange that the Sony A65 with an overall score of only 78% got a GOLD award, whereas the Sony A77 with a higher overall score of 81% got a SILVER award! Not that it really means a lot to me, I still find it very incomprehensible and highly inconsistent.

Please read Dpreview's description of awards, they are unrelated to scores and scores cannot be compared between camera classes and the a77 and a65 are in different classes.

I think more is expected from the A77 as Sony's flagship model, so why not just rely on the percentage earned and not argue about whether it's a gold or silver award?

Although, I see in their advertising that Sony quotes the fact that the A55 was given a gold award, so I guess Sony does value it when DPR awards gold!

Cheers

Comparison of A65 and A77 with A900

The A65 is quite a lot less expensive and targeted at a different type of user.

With that gold award the a65 is for sure gonna take better pictures than the a77!

Madness is when you start talking about the a77 EVF lag but you've never used the camera once.

All those nice feature and 400 bucks less. I would have been shocked if it didn't get gold

I have yet to see a list of all the cameras that are in each class. Makes it difficult to compare the A77 with other cameras in the same class.

Just a quick message to let you know we have just posted our Sony SLT-A65 review:

Lars - Could you please explain the following statement from the review?

"It's hard not to be impressed by 10fps capture at 24MP, and we're sure that for some consumers, this speed will be genuinely useful, if not for sports and action, certainly for portrait and social photography."

I assume to catch the right moment/ expression

Thanks for the review!
I have a doubt, does the flash system works like the a77/a900/a850
or like the cheaper models that can not use an external flash as a commander ?

Should be easy with a little price comparison. I would think the Nikon 7000 would be. Don't know which Canon as I've never been interested in Canon.

Refers to EVF showing what was just taken instead of what the subject is actually doing at that instant. This is a point that has been argued about EVF ever since SLTs first came out.

Man, you guys are really annoying. DPR staff have posted a million times (for 2 years) that scoring and award are independent of each other, but you guys still keep posting this same question over and over again.

Can you toggle the front wheel to give a P shift mode? Reviewer made several comments to the effect second wheel is not needed, does this imply a way to do this or does he not consider this function important? Not trying to start a discussion on P Shift which I find very important although I know not all here agree.
