wow they are great shots indeed well done
you may like my little bird story it happened last year

we now know the bird was a peregrine falcon not a buzzard

i am taking my family to the beach for the day
the country roads in cornwall uk can be very narrow
suddenly all the cars in front of me stop

i then see a bird of pray on the grass corner unable to fly he looks to big to have just left the nest i think he must have broken his wing nobody else was doing nothing

so i placed a towel on my sisterinlaws lap at this time i dont think we were worried about his sharp beak..the plan was to drive to the local police station 6 miles away where they could place him in a box or police dog kennel,,,then ring the RSPCA animal and bird centre
... guess what it is sunday and not one person is on duty in this police station

ok then we find out the rspca number and ring them our selfs they tell us it will take 3 hours for them to get to us,,,we tell them where we are parked near a river get all our

stuff out of the boot open all the car windows a little bit put the dog guard up in the bmw place a towel in the boot area and place the bird there for the next 3 hours

keeping a eye on the bird more like he was watching us like a hawk i did notice a white flap now and then covering his entire eye when he sort off blinked

my wife had this great idea of giving him a drink with the tea spoon that worked realy well and we could tell he realy enjoyed it

when the rspca finaly turned up and put on her gloves it suddenly dawned on me what a brave girl my sister inlaw was having had him on her lap for six miles

after she examined him quickly the first thought was a broken leg she as told us to ring up in a weeks time to see if he or she as survived the camera is the sony h2

with my shadow getting in the way some times hope my sony friends like them
we think its a buzzard

These are the e mails I received back from the RSPCA rescue centre about the buzzard
after many phone calls it looks like they have to many animals or birds and they
cant keep track of them all

i just wondered how the buzzard that we found on 20/06/2010 near looe Cornwall an officer collected it from us in the afternoon approx. 1500hours from the mill pool car park at looe the lady thought it had a broken leg she advised us we could contact u to see how the bird was, could you please make enquiries and let me know she did advise it was being taken to the hospital at Taunton

Thank you for your enquiry.

The bird was taken to a local veterinary establishment where it was examined and there were no injuries or breaks.
Thank you again for contacting the society.
Kind regards
RSPCA National Control Centre
hello,

Ref my recent enquiry can you please advise me if the buzzard was able to fly and if it has been released back into the area from which it was found was it just stunned then?
Thank you for your enquiry.

Unfortunately, the information that we provided on your previous email is the only details we have on the system.

Animals are released back into the wild after treatment whenever possible as near to the location they were found as possible.

Thank you for showing a keen interest in the welfare of the bird, this is always a refreshing change.
Kind regards

when the person took the bird from us....i made sure i put a little X on her road map
so when released it would be back in its own Territory

that bird was so relaxed while we drove the six miles

i know that might same strange but he or she seamed to know we were trying to help
it never even tried to bite us,,holding that bird was a Special moment

i will show you this shot that my son took with my panasonic tz while on holiday
new york i think
he did say the 87th floor reaching over the Barrier he took this

i think you may like it ..i have book marked your site and will have a proper look
later

i will not post any more non pentax shots on this forum,,but i am thinking about the
Pentax K-r or the k5

Hi Walter,

Congratulations on this set of fantastic photos! I don't think I'll ever see better again never mind being able to photograph anything like that myself.

Thanks for sharing, I'm truely gobsmacked by these!

Johnny

I'm blown away as usual Walter, such beautiful work.

I do the following as PP

from lightroom I load my photo into cs5 (cntr e in lightroom)

Then I do cntrl l for levels. Click on auto. When this is not what I expect I manually adjust it myself.
When needed I am using neat image (also on the auto mode)
then resizing to 800 pix longest side
then duplicate layer.
doing a highpass filter and most of the time between 0,3 and 0,6

and when needed (most of the time I am now ready) you can do layer reveal all(have to check this at home) I can undo sharpness on places where I do not want it.

thats it. I also did this when I used Pentax, Olympus and also now with Canon. This always worked for me.

The time I spent with PP is less then 10 seconds a photo. When it takes longer I throw it away, in some cases a photo is so special it deserves to get longer PP time. But I think a photo must be good in the first place so that minimum PP is needed.

regards Walter

Stunning shots! You mentioned Canon system, but what focal length lens did you use; handheld, on tripod?

I see hawks around almost every day. They sit on the light posts, perch on a few big trees, circle above. They are very comfortable with passing by cars. Once they captured a snake right before I made a stop at a stop sign. One hawk was jumping with a snake across the road right in front of my car. Another one was protecting the spouse from 10-15ft above. I had no camera with me at the moment. But they never let you get substantially close on foot. There is nothing to hide behind, no trees or bushes; just mountains. And all my shots come out from pretty long distances, also requiring extra cropping. I got a few relatively good ones, but never been so close to them.
There are all shots of the year. Congratulations!
