Let Us Discuss FNG303 and Challenge Hosting

As some of you are aware, FNG303 has picked up somewhat of a vendetta against me... posting the same comment over and over on my open challenges.

In an attempt to understand this troll, I called up his profile and looked at his comment history - and what I found shouldn't surprise anyone.

He has a long history of attacking hosts and their challenges - frequently complaining because his photos were disqualified for being contrary to the posted rules... and in most cases, inferring the hosts were morons.

Both today and yesterday, I've sent emails to DPR staff asking for the ability to ban or otherwise prevent malicious users from challenges we host... but I've yet to get a reply, and - to be honest - don't expect one since I'm sure this issue has been brought up previously.

I'm not above taking criticism, and have done my best to reply to any questions concisely when needed.

A few of you have pointed out my shortcomings (and probably will do so below) and while that can smart, most observations are on the mark... and I'm doing my best to correct them for the greater good.

However, this doesn't excuse malcontents like FNG303 abusing me and every other challenge host on DPR because they seem to think they're above them and above their posted rules.

DPR is a great place full of generally great users who have vast photographic talents and who are, on the whole, decent human beings.

People like FNG303 put a stain upon DPR... and make other users question whether they want to be here or not (I'm not one of them as I will keep hosting and submitting until the someone pulls the server's plug from the wall).

Alright... I'm going to stop whining now and instead will cry softly into my beer.

However, my points are valid.

Feel free to open fire now, LOL.

Okay, I will start. I think this is getting ugly, and it is time to cut it right here.
I really do hope that this ends... but I feel it won't and I'll have to continue deleting his comments ad infinitum.

I'm not one to usually call foul - and someone brought up in another thread that I rarely speak at all - but if someone declares war on me like FNG303 has, I feel I have the right to speak out.

Aw - don't cry into your beer! Most people love you! I'm new to this game but find no need to be abusive if I have a problem, so I really can't understand the nastiness of some people. I think thanks is very warranted for hosts as they make these competitions viable. So thank you for the work you do! And remember it's sad but true that you can never please everyone! :-)

Why ? I don't see the logic to deleting posts that you think are wrong ? let them stay there for everyone to see how wrong or inappropriate they are . . deleting them just makes you look like you can't take criticism.

Thank you. Civilized people are always welcomed in my (and I would presume everyone else's) challenges.

I would like to comment but a grown man has gone to his daddy.
LOL. See? It's impossible for him to be a decent person.

I would delete his comments purely on their abusive nature - even if he was belittling someone else in my challenge - as I believe we should all be capable of a civilized discourse... instead of carrying on like the dolts over on 4chan.

Is that such a bad standard to hold out?

If he is really being abusive . . . then you should report him to DPR and leave the comments so that DPR can see them and that others can also report him for being abusive . .

I suppose you could have a point... but by leaving his comments up, it sets a bar for other people who might be equally ill-mannered - and before you can say 'Bob's your uncle', bedlam breaks out.

Perhaps I just enjoy civil order too much... and if so, I'm sure there are worse failings.

I don't think I've had the pleasure (?) of conversing with FNG303 as a challenge host, but as a member posting comments in the forums - acerbic, rude, vulgar, argumentative, condescending, flippant and virtually useless at providing any value to the forum topic.

As can be demonstrated in the post on this thread, and some comments from the challenges:
"Mars bars and corn flakes in a white bowl" challenge -
http://www.dpreview.com/challenges/Challenge.aspx?ID=5455
Comment to me:
"No showers/bathtubs in your bathroom ? Not very bright. are you ?"

Some choice comments here, too -

And, of course, who can forget the this challenge ~

This is not a site for social reform. FNG303's challenges use words and subjects for the express purpose of offending people , and then replies with vague wording and obscure analogies in a condescending manner when they are offended.

However, all of the challenges must be approved by DPR. That, nonetheless, doesn't excuse any member personally attacking those who object to the offensive and/or juvenile subject matter.

Hey Lazy Host. When you disqualify, give a real reason. Do not just say "Not much effort" because this shows that you are just a Lazy Host.
Show some guts and do not delete my previous comment.

I see that you have also deleted another comment by someone asking what you really want. What is the matter with you ?

Careful... he might start trolling you as well, LOL

What I find quite amusing are the comments coming into my DPR inbox from other members regarding Mr. 303 - some wishing him physical harm.

While I shan't go that far, the man definitely needs to be taken down a notch or several hundred.

I know better than to mess with you. Your daddy is bigger than mine and like people with names ending with vowels almost always belong to an alleged organization also ending with a vowel, I may find a horse's head in my bed.

Maturity is clearly your strong suit.

Someone please stop this thread.
Why?

Having an open and honest discussion about a problem isn't a bad thing.

The desire to sweep troubling issues under the rug performs a great disservice to the community.

While I just wish Mr. 303 would leave challenges and their hosts alone, I certainly do not wish him to be hit by a bus like some users who've inboxed me.

Their reactions are clearly a result of FNG303's poor behavior and outlook.

What I found amusing was simply that other people have been stewing on this issue longer than I have.
