Hi,

I'm looking for a lightweight storage device for travel photos. I don't want to take my laptop on my trips, just want to download from memory stick to a storage device so that I can reuse my memory stick for more photos.
Can someone give me advice on the latest devices - pros and cons.
Thanks,
Jodz

If you use CF or SM, try the Archos Multimedia Jukebox. Doubles as an MP3 player, and you can verify on the screen that the pics are there.

(Not sure it will download 1Gb microdrive, but I hear 340Mb works. I use SmartMedia.)

Several have been reviewed on Steve's Digicams, and possibly other digicam sites.

Check out our PicturePad at http://www.delkin.com . There's a lot of positive feedback on it at Steve's, here at dpreview and other forums.

You know, though, the more I think about it the more I think that FOR ME it makes more sense to have a few media cards than a small device. Yes, the cost per MB is much less for the devices, and they hold far more. The key is FAR MORE - far more than I need! Obviously your mileage will vary. Folks who take 1200 photos per month, professionals, folks who always use RAW or TIFF, folks with 11 MP cameras, etc. probably need many-GB devices. But so far, the most I've ever taken on a single trip was around 250 - 300, and that'll fit nicely on a few tiny, light, immensely packable media cards. Now if I could get a 1 - 5 GB device for under $100, small and light, maybe I'd be more interested, but most of them are at least $200 for even the smallest - and some are more than twice that!
