anyone selling or trading their s90/s95 for s100?

I thought about selling my S95, to help pay for a new lens that I want, but the price of new S95s have been dropping and a person can't get a good price for a used camera.

Let's face it, when you sell used you have to add on shipping and Paypal fees. If you happen to use eBay you also have to pay them.

My S95 has less than 300 pictures taken with it and is basically brand new.

Doesn't make sense to give it away.

If you live in a large metro area Craigslist is always a good way to sell, without having to pay everyone else and their brother, but Craigslist around here is more like an on line garage sale.

I sold my S90 a month or so before the S100 was announced. Ordered the S100 but don't yet have it.

I bought an S95 about six months back on sheer impulse prior to travelling. Very quikcly, I fell in love with the equipment - my only complaint being (1) with the noise when shooting at ISO 800 or higher and (2) the speed with which max aperture drop when you zoom. Most of my low light shots were taken on tripod using ISO 100-160 and long exposure, and this produced great results.

When S100 was announced, I sold my S95 for 25% off my purchase price. I bought the S100 online from http://www.bhphotovideo.com and fortunately did not have to pay Customs Duty when my parcel arrived in Dubai.

My first impressions of S100: improved ergonomics, full HD video is definitely better than 720p, and improved low light photos. However, i didn't notice much improvement in file saving speed when shooting continuously. Canon claims that the DIGIC 5 makes autofocus and writing to SDHC upto 7 times faster. I look forward to hearing from other users. I was at the Dancing Fountains at Dubai Mall this evening, and missed many a good moments because my S100 was still saving the previous short, and hence the shutter would not work.

I know when the s90(?) or s95 came out, there was a lot whiners and complaints on this forum about the rear control wheel being fidgety.

Did they fix that in the s95 or s100?

I have hands and fingers the size of a gorilla, so not sure if the dials and buttons would work for me.

Using a G10 for now but want something I could carry in a pant or shirt pocket with better resolution than what I would get using an iPhone4s.

My "go to" cameras are: Canon 5DMKII and 7D so I like the color pallete and menu system of Canon's. Would like to stay with Canon if possible.

Thanks.

Well, the Canon S95 and S100 are similar in terms of size of dials and controls. I too have fat fingers, and am coping better with the S100 compared with the S95 because the S100 has a ridge in the front of it which improves the grip without compromising the svelte look.

If you want better dials, then go for either Canon G12 which is slightly bulkier but offers better performance too, or something like Fuji X10 or Nikon P7000.

May I ask, between the 5DMkII and the 7D, which one do you prefer? 7D is considerably cheper than 5DMkII yet dpreview rates it almost at par. Thanks

They greatly improved up on it in the s95. In the s100 it's pretty much completely impossible for it to be a problem, not only does the rear wheel even stiffer than on the s95, it also doesn't do anything by default.

When you turn the camera on and turn the wheel, on the s95 it would change exposure compensation. On the s100 it does nothing. If you want to change exposure compensation, you have to press up on the wheel first on the s100, then turning it changes exposure compensation.

Yep, mine's up on craigslist. Might be there a while with all the scams and no-shows, but I definitely like my S100 better.

Although the "loose rear wheel" never really bothered me that much, I "fixed" my S90 with a sanded/ thinned down ring. It took me about 1/2 hr.

The S95 and s100 have improved the situation as others have pointed out on this thread.

I'm very happy with my S90, but I would like the 24 mm on the S100.....waiting for Dpreview's review....interesting how they will judge the IQ and lens sharpness.

If you don't mind buying used, you'll find great deals on eBay or Craigslist.

I just got an s95 yesterday in like-new condition with an extra battery and Lowepro case for $200. I love it when some people are eager to upgrade!
