STOP the insanity

I know this because I run regular scans for malware as well as know how to take care of my computer.

I have been using personal computers since the mid 70's when I bought one of the original Commodore PET's.
Then how come I don't have the same problem on any of my computers (4), on any of my connections (3)?

I wonder if an antivirus program could be blocking his loads?
I don't use an antivirus program. Past experience has shown me how they can slow a system down. So now I do not use any. Instead I prefer to be somewhat intelligent on what I click (ie: never open unsolicited emails :-))

what Browser? And what cookie setting?
Opera 11.x, Firefox 6, IE 8, Avant 11.x

All the same.

Cookie setting? I delete all cookies at the end of each session, just like I clear the browser cache.
I moved to Firefox 7 and did get a small jump but have all but the originating sites scripts and ads blocked If I don't, it gets bad.....doubleclick.net seems the worst.

I also set session cookies only but a week or so ago dpreview did something and if I don't set temp set cookies to "until they expire" I can't see any messegaes. So I do that every now and then thes go back to "session only".

That use to be the case (just don't open unsolicited emails)....but now if you don't fully block scripts and ads...in rare case you can get a virus by visiting a site unprotected and get a nasty worm....or even though IM's, rare though. Microsoft security essentials is free and really doesn't slow you in any noticeable way if you already have a fair machine. Good Luck.

Well since you know so much about computers I guess your machine must be fine and DPR's site is just bloated.

Maybe you can help the people here fix their problem of DPR loading so quickly.

.

No problems on my PC; I'm running Windows XP SP3 and Firefox 3.6.23 with AdBlock. DPReview loads very quickly. As others have noted, it appears your problem is other than DPR itself.
There are others who share his view.

Now it could be regional issue but I certainly have the same issue with this site.

There are times it loads the first page fast and then subsequent pages becomes a waiting game. Aand then times it works the other way around. I have no issue with any other site either.
I'm using a satellite connection (DSL slow) but dpreview does really well now and I think it's because I use a script blocker.

...oh, and I see by the lack of responses that I am right yet again.

Well, I do use an ad blocker plus a fortified HOSTS file. Never use IM or any toolbars .

But since the problem is very site specific, I think the problem originates with this site.

Yes, my machine is fine. Plus it is not just one machine. If I have a problem I can, and often do, pull out another computer to check. If the alternate computer has the same experience, it is not the computer but the site, and like I have stated many times already, it is very site specific.

I think most people can do this for themselves, without any outside help :-).

edit: can be removed but stops Firefox beyond usable (with default settings).

I normally do not use Firefox (Opera is and has been my main browser for years), but I tried this noscript with Firefox, and it does indeed speed things up considerably.

Sigh... that means I will have to start using firefox for dpreview (although a lot better than IE, it is still not as good as Opera, IMO).

Of course you wouldn't use defaults but I love the add-on. It has greatly speeded up how fast many sites load and now I don't get bombarded with adds. Needed here as I have a relatively slow satellite connection.

In this case it's not a true problem with the OP's computer, IMO. There are so many browsers and so many possible configurations. Differences in one site across platforms is bound to surface and sites with heavy ads or scripts would naturally show the configuration differences first.

I use Chrome and am having no problems with speed :)

1. You have not explained why you are one of the few who has trouble with this site. I use MSE and on 7 different computers this site loads instantly on all of them. Every single time I choose a page. The slowest page to load is the challenge page and that takes about .02 seconds.

I like the plug-in set with Mozilla although Chrome being a fairly pared down package should be pretty quick and I do have that sitting back there for emergencies.

Do you have any security issues with it?
