Inviting everyone to vote in the Museum challenge:

http://www.dpreview.com/challenges/Challenge.aspx?ID=5586

Please remember, this is not a competition for the best technical illustration of some exhibit. The challenge is to convey the mood of a museum , without titles or descriptions. In other words, if you look at the photo and remember how you felt in a some museum, in recent or distant past, if it triggers that memory for you, the photo succeeded.

There are very few procedural rules, and all photographs have met them (otherwise they would have been disqualified).

I would have thought you were looking for pictures in a Museum . . . some are quite clearly Art Galleries and should be DQed . . .

As a voter I make a distinction between the two so anything I think is a Gallery will get a 0.5 . . .

Don't worry ;), I'm not going to vote . . my last post was just an illustration of why your statement: "There are very few procedural rules, and all photographs have met them (otherwise they would have been disqualified)." is not bomb proof.

I'm with Raptor on this ... there is a clear distinction between an art gallery and a museum and the feelings evoked by each are very different. You should have DQ'd the Art gallery entries in this one. BTW it would make a great challenge by itself (if you can keep the museum entries out ;) )

I will be voting .. still not sure what to do with Art gallery entries ... would you care to provide some guidance before I get accused of being a "sandbagger" ?

I figured that much. ;)

Still, I hope that "Museum of Art" concept is familiar to even the most petulant of voters. :D

Not sure I have been called Petulant before :D . . thank you ;)

Museum of Art . . . ah . . you mean an Art Gallery ;)

I see. So what is the Musee de Louvre? MOMA - the Museum of Modern Art? The Victoria and Albert which is a mix of all sorts of things, including art works? Musee d'Orsay -- the museum in the train station that is chock full of the greatest works of French art since the 19th century? Museo Guggenheim, Bilbao? Shall I continue?

Any 0.5 votes or disqualification would be an act of ignorance.

So what you have is a bunch of nice Architectural pictures or pictures of some exibits that people have left over from thier holidays. The mood of a museum is best pictured by the way people are engaged. Not seen a lot of that but that is where my votes have gone. But here is only one in there that truly does it for me.

Sorry! My irony detector was off. I wrote before breakfast -- a bad move! I know I should pay more attention to the smileys, but what we really need is a whole new type face called Ironic Bold (or even Sarcastic Medium) for those of us who only read the words.
Well, my approach is simple - if I see "UK" in the nick or in the profile, I assume sarcasm first. :D

That's O.K., onlooker misinterpreted my humorous response in a different thread - easy to misread a comment intent when not speaking face to face. :0
