Is anyone else getting a bit suspicious of absent Samsung products? The ifn 50-200mm was released ages ago and yet I’m still waiting to buy one here in the UK (from someone I trust). Park Cameras which is my local trusted store have been advertising most of Samsung’s lenses as out of stock (never been in stock) for months. Apart from the kit lens I think they only have the 20mm. They put up the 60mm and 16mm months ago but they are vapour ware. The NX200 is still nowhere to be seen.

When I first bought my NX10 about a year and a half ago, I looked at the road map of lenses and listened to Samsung say they were going to own the market and I was happy. Now all this time later I still only have the two lenses I bought with my NX10 with no sign of being able to add to them soon.

I’m starting to think Samsung have had second thoughts about the whole thing but haven’t told anyone else. I’m wondering if any of the lenses on the road map will actually get made/shipped to the UK.

Yes, this post is pointless and won’t achieve anything except vent some frustration. I’ll probably regret posting it tomorrow. I’m starting to hope that Canon have been secretly working on something wonderful so I can jump ship. The Sony/mft don’t grip me.

As I have been so negative here is something a bit more positive, two recent NX10images, hope you like them.

I like the pictures! Seems you still enjoy taking photos.

As for the lenses - have you considered buying from elsewhere? After all Samsung did release new lenses. I too had been frustrated when the 16mm lens was delayed and arrived too late for my main holiday. But now I have it and enjoy it.

I have seen German retailers have good prices on Samsung stuff and the shipping costs to the UK should not break the bank.

I don't know what's keeping you from buying online since you are practically know how to. how much trouble can that be if you are really serious about purchasing the lens or much rather jumpship because Canon is practically everywhere even in the planet URANUS. this is not really a surprise considering Samsung is still a lesser known brand and Samsung can't do nothing if the shops that supposedly that has them coming, dont really order them because of the lack of patrons for the brand. it is not as simple as telling someone to accept and sell your product if there ain't no substantial demand for it yet. this is not only limited to Samsung but other lesser brands as well. too bad the name brand you stated for comparison is practically known as camera. and No, there is no secret about Canon making such camera, otherwise there would had been rumors by now. much like what Nikon did, although I consider the V1 and J1 as disappointments.

I picked up a Samsung NX200 from Jessops in Meadowhall at Sheffield last Thursday.
From Jessops the kit lens is the 18-55 ois ifnc.

I too was interested in the 50-200 ois ifnc lens but couldnt find anywhere online selling them.

When I went to Jessops to pick up the NX200 they had a 50-200 lens on display for £249. The Jessops guy advised holding off though because they are apparently having a Christmas special on NX lenses, the 50-200 and some pancake lenses, which will be quite a bit cheaper.

Not sure why Jessops dont have the 50-200 lens on their website either.

I dont think the 16mm lens has been released in UK yet either.

Thanks for the replies, but I think I may have misled you. When I said Park Cameras is local I meant within 40 miles, I would still order online. Park Cameras is a major camera retailer here in the UK. The truth is none of the big players in the UK have much Samsung stuff. Not even Amazon has anything. This why I am wondering if Samsung have rethought their strategy for the NX.

If you know of a major player which actually have stuff in stock please let me know. Thanks Ian

It's going to be difficult to build a route to market comparable to Nikon and cannon in this market place. I just hope that the system can keep breathing until things pick up a bit. This pretty much means ordering and getting on a back to back basis.

Park are showing the NX200 plus 20-50 in stock. Their offer with the 16mm lens is showing out of stock but the price seems rather ambitiously low.

London Camera Exchange suprisingly had a 50-200 in stock and they are not an NX stockist.

I agree, it is frustrating that Samsung's NX bodies and lenses are hard to find at retail, but those lenses you want ARE available by mail order.

I found my NX10 kit, 30mm, and 50-200mm lenses all at a local retailer here in Canada, and definitley prefer buying in-person.

I hope Samsung makes at least a bit of a push to get their product in at least some of the larger camera retailers.

Thanks for posting the photos; again very nice landscapes.

I've had my NX10 for 19 months and would like to add either the 16mm or 16-80mm. I've been able to keep my frustration in check for several reasons. It's still so much fun to use the 30mm and the 18-55mm. I also tell myself I haven't figured out what to get next; plus I can afford more easily whatever it is the longer I wait.

Cloudy November is settling in here, so I'm also consoling myself with the prospect of spending a month in Australia (Dec-Jan). I'm telling myself I want to travel very light (including camera) anyway. And I've grown very comfortable with what I've been using. Useful rationalizations.

Keep posting those English landscapes.

If it stays cloudy (and gray) here, maybe its time to shoot some birds with the NX10. Here's one with an earlier camera; interested to find out how the NX10 compares.

Or some interiors, where the NX10 can really shine:

After looking through the replies, I have these thoughts.

Why do some of you say Samsung can’t compete with CaniKon. The shops in the UK are full of Samsung TV’s and phones. My local Tesco’s is full of the stuff. This is not a small company if they wanted to ship a boat load of stuff they could do it.

Some of you seem to think they can’t ship a load of stuff due to poor demand, but that is a self-fulfilling prophesy. They need to get the camera/lens to shops to get it noticed.

I wouldn’t mind if they said they overestimated their ability to bring the products to market and asked us to be patient, but you hear nothing from them. Panasonic/Olympus/Sony keep their buyers more informed with news updates.

PS nice photos TJL

It's true that most of UK retailers dont stock Samsung products. But apparently you can order most of Samsung lenses on Jessops website and collect them from their shop after couple of days. I bought 50-200mm from Cameraworld.co.uk for £179.00 recently. I had to wait almost two weeks to be delivered though. I also ordered 30mm from Micro Anvika for £144.89 today. On their website it says 'Out of stock, order upon request' but I got an email with expected delivery date for Wednesday 9th of Nov. Fingers crossed!

Sammy get it to their European hub, and from there it is shipped, normally to anywhere in europe within 3 days. The shops are not taking massive risks outside the cities. I can pick up from stoke in 3 days any nx gear I like. And stoke Is a relative backwater. But it is unlikely they gonna stock an 85mm etc. in stoke, so I'm on a back to back with it in my city.

I believe you are referring primarily about my post. then just for the sake of argument, here is what actually Samsung was before it became a well-known and sought after electronic brand. Samsung was already a big company when it started to compete with other electronic brands. it started slow with their flat screen TVs and mind you that they didn't ship their wares to North America before it became a famous brand in Asia. it took several years for them to break into the North American market and it started with pretty competitive pricing. just like what they are doing now with their NX cameras. did they ship massively with their products then? NO. so practically they are still the the phase of really getting into the competition. besides, how many years do their NX system logged? the answer is, 2 years.

so this is not a self-professing prophesy, but rather actual market history and logic that Samsung is applying to it's new products. only someone with a business sense would know this which I doubt you have some experience on.

let me tell if Samsung gets really popular by next year, expect that you will see Samsung cameras for sale as early as the rumors are made. this is not a prophecy, just plain business logic.

I would be wary of collect at store. You lose your rights from distance selling laws, you are deemed to have inspected the goods. The first NX100 I collected at Jessops as new turned out to be a returned model and I only manged to get it replaced when I noticed that it had a third party battery.

If you get stuff mail order you can return it for any reason within 7 days for any reason so have much more time to test the goods or change your mind. It is nice to pick it up but if in anything looks even slightly amiss reject the product. Of course with mail order you may get debited and never see the goods. You have to be careful who you buy from.

The second pic is really quite cool - I love evaporated/erosion pool/lake shots like that. It'd make a nice print.

I live near some evaporation and wetlands areas myself, but it's hard to get a proper vantage point in the area.

Thanks for the comment. That is actually our local drinking water reservoir, if it doesn't fill up soon we'll be having to drink beer all day!

Sometimes I think this website would be ess tense if we were all forced to drink beer instead of water... ;)

Although we'd likely see more focus gaffes in test images.

Yes like you I am frustrated and a bit suspicious. There is some Samsung availability here in Canada but the NX200 is only available with the 18-55. No sign of the 16mm as far as I can tell...it's the usual Samsung lenses that have been around for a while, and the NX11. Samsung's lens roadmap is really impressive, but I have an increasing suspicion that it is more a piece of fiction than an actual plan for the future.

What I have done is to adjust my expectations of Samsung and the role it will play in my modest lineup of camera equipment. Worst case scenario is I have an NX100 with 20-50mm and 20mm lens, so it is a nice, portable combo that I can carry with me with ease. I didn't invest very much money in this system ($399 for the NX100 with lens and only $150 for the 20mm) so if NX goes the way of the dodo bird it's not a big loss for me. If Samsung actually lives up to its potential in 2012, then I will continue to invest in the system...not really expecting this to happen though. My DSLR gear isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

I think nobody here has really fully invested with the Samsung invested yet. I bought my NX200 for $750, the most expensive NX gear that I bought from Samsung and I don't think I would really consider that as a real investment, apart from the $600 NX100 and NX30mm combo. to be honest, my intention was to purchase the NX200 and the 30mm as a travel/walk camera. it's too bad the NX200 came out late which I needed badly last August and I had to contend with the NX100. although I have no regrets with the NX100 since it is a great cam by it's own standards despite it well-known major and minor flaws which are both bothersome and superficial. for $300, it's worth the risk as long as it's under warranty.

with regards to the 16mm and 60mm lens, I think I saw those already available on eBay and other European websites. the 60mm looks to be a heavyweight as a portrait telephoto macro. although the 85mm appeals me more due to speed necessity. hope Henry gets them in-stock this month.

I was in Hong Kong last week, and Samsung had a display at the most touristic places. Showing NX200, 16mm and the 60mm. No 85mm.

There seem to be a camera war over there. Canon, Sony, Nikon and in some extent Samsung has chosen to decorate one subway station each.

Canon 7D was the most popular camera that I could see anywhere at any time being used or at least carried around. I also some new Nikon cameras. I did not see many Samsung.

I guess Samsung is marketing the NX200 in those places where they managed to get best infiltration, to get an increase turnaround of their products.

The camera market is not like the TV market. On TVs the form factor has changed a lot the last ten years. On cameras they have not, so the expectation of the different brands quality has not changed that much.
As I have been so negative here is something a bit more positive, two recent NX10images, hope you like them.
The photos are great.

Samsung needs to support photographers like you, if they want to get an increasing market share. People tend to buy cameras, depending on what photographers they trust uses. Those as see your great photos are more likely to buy the same camera as you than the average Joe.
