Hi all,

I am processing some pictures taken on a trip last week and somehow I can't decide which "mood" I like better. So I thought I'd asked you guys.

Which WB do you find more pleasing for this picture (if any)? Any comments/advices are much welcome and appreciated. Thank you.

Taken with K-5 + 18-135 in the Bohemian Forest, Czech Rep.

beautiful picture I like the mood in the second one more

2nd one works better for me, although I'd tune down the exposure 1/2 stop, and increase contrast if it were me.

I actually like the 1st one

For me the first one is just too cold.

I really like the second one, but I feel the effect in it should be even more pronounced. :)

Along similar lines, open the photo in the free viewer FastStone and apply its Auto Adjust option. If that goes too far, open your post processing program and blend the Fast Stone version with the original at desired strength.

Really like the cool blueness of the first one. Gives it a very enchanting feeling works really well with the moss and light reflecting of the mist. It all says cool to me. It doesn't really look like a warm forest.

I like the coolness of the first. Seems more fitting to me.

1st one for me too.
If it's a cold climate forest, it should look cold.
Brrrr!

Of these, #2 looks more attractive but they both look wrong. Without having been there I'd guess that the true colours were somewhere between. This version blends both with 40% of #1, 60% of #2 and some tweaks via tone curves to add a bit of contrast.

Well I think Gerry's got the right answer and makes me realize why I couldn't chose one over the other .

I also like Gerry's compromise version. As others have said, if the feeling you want is winter cold, then the first was appropriate, but for a feeling of the fall season with yellow leaves and all, then the second was better. I've found in photoshop selecting the "Cloudy" WB produces something much like your second photo while the As Shot picture with "Auto WB" on my K10D is more like your first picture. Both ways it was beautiful, especially how the light streamed thru the trees. Well done. Regards, Geoff.

It's a nice composition, but I like the tweaks Gerry applied too.

Cheers. ernie

What a fun image to play with! I prefer the cooler tone myself, probably because it's what I perceive as 'normal' in the Pac-NW. ;) I really like the glow of the moss on the first one. I'd probably try warming #1 slightly, desaturating a smidge then see what contrast works best with it.

Really though, it works great both ways. You can emphasize moss, sunbeams, tree-trunks.. so many great subjects in one shot. What a joy to come home with images like this to wrestle with!
