Curious ~

I put considerable amount of time in my challenges. The moment someone tells me to start "validating" results with 2 other hosts (good luck) and DPR stuff (goooood luck), I am bailing out.

I am not lazy, I am realistic and know what it mean to coordinate a project with other people. No, thanks, I don't need the aggravation.
Unfortunately though many hosts are lazy. They don't monitor their challenges and that results in many skewed results. I'm sure on the flipside that there are many hardworking hosts like yourself as well. Just as there are many honest voters and challenge entrants.

So if it caught you eye as a thumbnail, maybe the lazy voters that vote on thumbnails did the same thing. Maybe one's vote should have to be recorded in the slide show?

You may be onto something, it could have just an unusually high number of thumbnail voters this time around. I do think that most of the time the best shots bubble up to the top even with the "friend" votes. This one still surprised me, but you make a valid point too.
Thanks,

If you look at the link below, you can get the answer about the shutter speed.

I like the shot, it's edgy and powerful.

It's one thing to discuss whether a shot is deserving, it's another thing to sow the seeds of doubts.

My 2 cents.
Does anybody else think it's a little peculiar when there's a 'winner' that has virtually no stats in their profile and either their very 1st entry wins 1st place, or they have lots of high placing entries, but nothing in their gallery and no other stats?

In the I Follow the Sun challenge, the winning shot - besides being sideways in the large view and, sorry, but not that great of an image - is the entrant's 1st entry.

Over the last couple months, I've seen this 3 or 4 times - first entry winner.

And, it received 8 5.0 votes - I don't think I've ever seen anybody get that many 5.0 votes.
(Check out the shutter speed - is that possible?)

I looked, but I didn't see anything explaining why - is it just a funky camera phone weird conversion issue.
That wasn't my issue - I just thought it was bizarre.

I'm a little confused here - I doubt the image is deserving. The seeds of that doubt are the 8 5.0 stars. That is just so far out of the range of normal voting for any of the challenges that I've reviewed. Many winning shots don't get any 5.0 stars. Getting 2 5.0 stars is unusual. While this one may be deserving, I don't see anything in this image that just catapults it to another level.
My 2 cents.
I totally appreciate your 2 cents! ;)

If there is really something in this image that justifies it being head & shoulders above all the others - I would really love to know what that is - cuz I'm not getting it now. I'm certainly willing to accept that that could be my problem - :-P

If you could please elaborate on what you see that is edgy and what makes it powerful? (More than just a naked girl on the beach.)

I confess to being very skewed to the logical side, and having the large view sideways is irritating, and not helping with my judgement.

Also, I tried to find some compliance with the subject - so, following the sun - going towards the sun - "For tomorrow may rain, so - I'll follow the sun". In this image, the girl has her back to the sun - hence, not following it , but moving away from it.

Well, there are 3 users, such as ConanFuj, whose comments say the photo won with merit. It turns out that so far nobody has convincingly explained why, nor has anyone said if it is unfair to point out that:
  • The picture is crooked;
  • The sky is not interesting, nor his emptiness brings a better effect;
  • Applied effects Seem very unnatural;
  • There is nothing that stands out, maybe because the person is just posing and centered horizontally and the other elements in the picture only distract without adding anything else.
Average number of votes for each photo in the challenge was below 20, but this photo got 28 votes with a rather unusual number (curiously 8) of 5 stars.

But it's great to hear DPR is aware of our concerns and that they will take measures when possible form them.

DK Baker, above your picture, I only scored better 3 photos. What I appreciated most were the colors, which were great. Both man and dog are the weak points, for me.

Btw, is there any thread where we can see who are the best Challenge Hosts?
