Hello everyone, I'm new here (Fuji Forum). I've only had the X10 for a few days and the light isn't too good here in the UK at the moment, but here are some initial shots.

I'm still getting used to the camera, but so far my impressions are all very positive.

Anyone considering this camera won't be disappointed, it really is a gem, I have the black leather case and it looks amazing.

I take it they are wide open, you need to close the aperture down when outside to get rid of the fringing.

Paul.
Your're not wrong Paul, they were indeed wide open, had literally just picked up the camera and stuck it on landscape mode, very lazy I know.

Thanks for commenting and your tip, I will try this.

Cheers

Hello Joanne and welcome to our forum... :)

I am really relieved to see a new early owner of the X10 posting images with enough variety to be of use to other people assessing or getting a good idea of the cam's performance. Thank you for that...

I can see that you are making use of the auto modes. I like the images too and more so their content. Beautiful scenery and lovely pets. My favourites are the house on the river bank and the last cat. The fur detail captured looks quite good for the fairly high iso values the cam chose.

I hope we see a lot-lot more from you as you move along the learning curve. Please keep posting a variety of subjects and try to include some people if you can and some flash shots too.

Again, welcome aboard... :)

ps Let me congratulate you on your steady hands. I can see some very low speed shots and I doubt if you used a tripod....

ps If you see someone without a smile on, give him one of yours... :)

Many congratulations on the new camera - and some nice close ups of the cats too!

From these images and a few others I've seen, it appears that the X10 may tend (when not in EXR mode) towards slight overexposure - I've seen quite a few shots with burned out highlights, and I guess I'm more used to Panasonic and Pentax "preserve the highlights if at all possible" approaches.

Given that the noise performance would seem to be pretty good even in 12MP mode, it is perhaps one of those cameras where you may be better off dialing in a little bit of underexposure (1/3 or 2/3 EV) and then brightening things up a little if required on the computer.

Cheers,

Jon

How could the camera chose the widest aperture in landscape mode?

+1 re the observation of slow shutter speed. I wouldn't have suspected such slow shutter speeds unless I'd checked.

Very nice images.
I know it' not a easy question, but is this a good camera for a newbie like me?
I dont to start with a DSRL camera. Thaks

Thanks reference the steady hand comments, I'm not sure I can take the credit for this, I don't usually have a steady hand....maybe it's the in camera stabilisation.

wow, I love the detail!

whats important to get a lot of detail from camera? lens? sensor? megapixel?

Joanne,

how did you compose the cat pictures ? Did you use the the OVF or the LCD ? I'm just trying to gauge a little the effectiveness of the OIS - I expect that using the viewfinder results (at least for me) in steadier pictures.

Other than that, thanks a lot for the samples ! I've been flirting with this camera since its announcement, and such real-world examples are very helpful in the "decision process".

Nice pictures. Thank you for posting..I have been wondering what this camera can do..I like the way just the cats face is in focus and the nice bokeh behind that..Maybe if you dress your camera up as a mouse your black cat would like it better..I have noticed that many birds and animals don't like things pointed at them..They either bite or fly off, and you are never sure which is going to happen.. As to this being a beginner camera, you will probably need a crash course in photography to run this one.. The more controls, the more you need to know...Rimshot

Very nice, I have not yet brought the X10 in, waiting for Aperture to support the RAW. I do like the outdoor shots and if Paul had not mentioned the PF I would not have noticed any. I prefer to work in other than Auto modes (I really like Aperture Priority) but maybe with this camera I will change the way I shoot, or not. Thanks again

I think these are a wonderful series of images. I enjoy them very much.

Also it appears here that a simple hue adjust removes a lot of the PF or CA. And FYI the PF or CA is very light except in a few areas and could be easy to miss.

You obviously have a fine photographic eye! Welcome aboard I say.

Kind regards and keep them coming,

Have fun, fun, fun, :D

Interesting question...see the thing that attracted me to this camera, was in fact, the OVF...but come to think of it, I definitely used the LCD to compose the cat pictures....easier to get down to their level. There is nothing wrong with the OVF, it's very good (even though only 85% coverage) but sometimes the LCD is the better tool for the job.

Thanks for all - it means a lot that folk take the time to comment and offer some really useful info and tips.

Cheers
