I recently visited my daughter, grandson and son-in-law in the ABQ area. We made several day trips to view Fall foliage. These photos are from Fourth of July Canyon about an hour south of ABQ in the Manzano mountains at 7500 ft elevation. The sky was really that blue. Taken with the E1 and 14-54mm.

Canyon maple

Really red maple

Yellow maple

Oaks

More in reply.

We had gorgeous weather and great foliage.

I have not seen autumn leaves ever since I left Switzerland in 1964.

Yours look very nice.

Thanks for sharing.

An attractive collection, Lois, evidence that New Mexico is much more than parched rocks, sand and cactus. So much to enjoy in NM. Great landscapes.

Very nice shots with that camera & lens combo.

The scenery also looks very similar to what we have around here, especially your trail shot.

Still learning the e-1 and the 14-54. Every now and again I get out of focus shots. At first I thought it was the camera or the lens, but I am getting at times the same results with my other DSLR and other lenses. As I am still fairly new to the DSLR world and coming from the P&S way of doing things, I find that maybe I am shooting to quick with the E-1 and not giving it time to focus?

We did the leaf peeping thing this year as well, but the weekend that the leaves reached their peak color and our trip was scheduled was also the same day that Mother Nature scheduled high winds and rain. She managed to remove quite a few leaves from trees that day.

If you have the time, take a look at my pBase gallery at http://www.pbase.com/paulm2/canyon

Nice to see your post.

Those are beautiful photos, Lois Ann, and the colors are gorgeous. Well done!

I went to the Bosque del Apache wildlife refuge in NM early last November and the Fall colors were beautiful there, too. A special place.

Best to you,

****:)

You're welcome. It took a while. I had set the E1 to shoot RAW+jpeg, but it didn't work, so I had to make jpegs for Karen also, then resize to post online.

Thanks, Marn. New Mexico has a lot of things most people don't know about, including 10,000 ft mountains with snow in the winter.

Where do you want to move? Columbus, which state?

Thanks, Henry. Have you ever wanted to go back to a place with Fall foliage like this?

I enjoyed seeing your photos. It's nice to see all those colors and sunshine.

Hi Lois, this is more the colour of the fall foliage we see here in Oz and that sky is really something isn't it? I enjoyed your shots. Take a look at my response to Sharon's latest fall photos from her patch, seeing trees in all their autumn glory with snow attached is something unusually beautiful to my eye.
Cheers,
John.

Columbus is in New Mexico .. it is a border town just a couple of mins away from the Mexican border .. but wont be for a few years .. we knew about the mountains and the snow .. just didnt think Fall colors there .. :)

NM is the Land of Enchantment, but don't let too many people know!

I looked at your leaf-peeping gallery, very nice photos. What is the waterfall? I was surprised to see so much water. In the Pacific NW, waterfalls this time of year can be almost dry. Spring is the time of year with lots of water.

Re: the E-1 and focusing. You could be pushing the button too soon, or you could be pushing too hard, causing the camera to move. However, the latter is usually a problem with smaller cameras, and the E-1 is a tank. Does it feel too heavy? Could your hands be shaking? I have small hands and when I got the E-1 I thought it might be too heavy and bulky for me to hold, but it isn't. Keep practicing and see if you can isolate a common factor in the shots that aren't in focus. Good luck!

Thanks, ****. It's nice to see that you pop into OTF periodically. Bosque del Apache is definitely on my list of places to go in NM.

to be close to the Fall color action. It wasn't quite there on my trip and I recall with fondness my years in New England where the color is fantastic. Nice work on these.

Thanks, Wayne. This is not near where I live, but near where my daughter lives. I have some good Fall color in my own yard, which I will share eventually.
