I got my wife a Sony 5n so she can take pictures of our new baby when ever she wants to. But after we got it, I find myself picking this up more often than my 7D.

Anyways, Along with the kit 18-55, I got three Canon FD lens 28mm f2.8, 50mm f1.4 and 135 mm f2.8 (all three total with adapters cost me around $150).

The other day, I tested 5n to see if it has clicking noise during video and it does.

Also after shooting for about 15 to 20 mins continuously my camera asked me to shut down to prevent over heating.

Well, I am contemplating if it is worth sending it back to get it fixed by Sony. I am wondering if anybody here had experience with the said fix by Sony.

Thanks in advance.

So nobody on this form experienced the clicking noise? or is it that nobody got it fixed?

I don't think there a lack of people who have experienced getting the fix; rather, people who have gone through the process hadn't read your post yet or perhaps didn't care to respond.

I had the clicking problem on my camera. I sent it in for the fix. It was fixed. It has no clicking that I can hear any more. I am pleased.

Is there a nex 5N camera without the clicking noise in the market? I mean, does somebody have the nex 5N without this problem?
Thank you.

Hi

Got a clicker sent it to Sony in Wales Uk. Turnaround was 6 days, kept fully informed of process. Now it doesn't click at all.

I am glad I chose that option as opposed to returning it to Amazon and possibly got another clicker or worse no replacement!

Send it in its freepost, painless and quick.

Regards
Glen

mine is currently in Laredo also... Shipped it Tuesday and they received it on Wednesday.

I was surprised to receive an update since I've read that Laredo do not send updates. Anyways will wait and see.

bought mine at sonystore and let them send it directly for warranty repair.
I should have it back next week.

I bought yesterday from Sony directly, and the rep assured me that the batches that now ship have been fixed. If you have a clicking (defective product) return and buy a new one from Sony, or send it to Sony for fix.

Thank you very much guys. My thing is, I just got this two weeks back, if the new one have this problem fixed, I am not sure if I should send it back and get a new one or if I should send it for the repair. I will call up customer service and figure it out.

thanks for responding to my questions.

Hard to tell because some people:

1) Don't shoot video or say they don't care.

2) Don't notice, either because they hold the cameras VERY steadily or don't give a lot of attention to audio.

3) Think the "clicking" is what you hear when shaking or rotating the camera violently, which no one should do anyway.

4) May have purchased cameras that had the shutter mechanism lubed or fitted differently from the beginning, even before the clicking was noted by some. Perhaps cameras from different plants, or from different run batches, were assembled differently.

5) Are guys who are losing inner ear sensitivity and can't hear crickets or other clicking sounds any more, either. Their women probably have better ears, but don't want to make the guy angry by saying that they can hear things he can't.

6) Suffer BSVS (buyer self-validation syndrome), meaning they suppress evidence that places in question the wisdom of their purchase. This is a variant on FBDD (fanboy delusional disorder) whose victims buy and obsessively praise gizmos, which they sometimes barely use before chucking for something else, becoming something like MPD (multiple personality disorder).

If NEX7 units remain scarce, or if reviews report too much NR, others may also want to know if the "fresh" 5N units are free of clicking.

Sorry this has nothing to do with your post, but just wondering where u got such a good deal on those lenses + adapter?? I tried looking on the usual ebay, but I come up with price difference from 30-40$ per lense to 250$... whats the exact model for these lenses?

I'm pretty new to all these MF lenses available for the 5N and a package like that with 3 different focal length for this price might be a good way to start learning how to use them...

I haven't even got my 5N yet, so all I know for now is what I've been reading online and this whole thing about using old MF lenses seems quite appealing!
Thanks!

I just got mine today serial #171xxxx from BH and it clicks! Not sure to sent it back to the online store or to Sony. Extremely disappointed!

I got mine yesterday from Henrys Camera serial 186xxxx no clicking noise, maybe Sony fixed the problems before go to the store, the first shot file number start with 00091, I think Sony did some test with the camera.

I'm returning mine because the kit lens's zoom ring doesn't turn smoothly in addition to the clicking problem. None of my other lenses are like this!

Just got a message from Sony. They fixed my 5N and have shipped it out yesterday. Unfortunately, they didn't do overnight on the return and shipped ground instead. So I should get it sometime near the end of next week.

so far customer service is good. good communications...

I bought mine a couple of weeks ago in the UK from PCSuppliers. It clicks only if I shake it, but in this case the video is not usable anyway. If I pan the camera normally, there's either no clicking at all or 1-2 random clicks per 3 minutes of video, which doesn't bother me at all.

I've sent my 3 day old 5N off to Sony Uk Service Centre today for a fix. Just a quick heads-up for any UK owners doing the same.....

Sony thoughtfully provide a Freepost service and advise you to obtain a Royal Mail proof of posting. They also suggest that you make arrangements for postal insurance.

There are a number of people posting that they have had problems with Sony Service not receiving their laptops and other Sony consummer products. These are a small number and I make no criticism of either Royal Mail or Sony. Heavy packets labelled for Sony are always going to have an interest to anyone of a dishonest nature. That's life.

The problem is that my Post Office says it is not possible to purchase extra compensation. For those that have items gone missing the Royal Mail pays up, but their liability is limited to the equivalent of 100 first class stamps. That's less than fifty pounds!

I sent mine Special Delivery with £1000 compensation and just accepted the £7.90 cost. It may be over cautious but life is too short to spend time corresponding with Royal Mail !!

Your call.....

I ended up sending it in to Sony and no more clicking sound.

The more I learn about this little camera the more I like it.
