Canon is announcing new video cameras and systems and has already announced the 1D X. it looks that soon enough we will have the next gen on the 5D - 7D.

Can wait to see them!

Cheers

I can't .. !!

When is the announcement?

Call me pessimistic but I don't see a 7D replacement reflected here.

I just don't believe hopes should be raised due to unfounded assumptions or vague inuendos. This claim may be more wishful thinking than fact. I hope for those waiting desperately for a new toy that I am wrong.

I started in the 50's - my first picture was taken with a Leica and hooked me for life. I no longer use my Leicas, but I am still taking pictures. Some things never change.

I can't wait either. Don't listen to nay Sayers here. Same people putting people down here day before 1Dx announcement. Day after all go in hiding.

Given that Canon has already announced a successor to their top of the line DSLR, and based on history they have already passed the normal timeframe for such announcements, the earliest I see a 7D replacement is Feb 2012.

Canon has said no 5d replacement is coming soon, and I don't see a 7d replacement until after the 5d is done.

If soon you mean this week - no , If you mean in next few years - like we will have a new president soon - yes - maybe

I think we have about another year with the current 7D. The 5DIII seems to be the obvious choice for what gets updated next in the semi-pro/pro lineup.

Also, don't forget that when 2012 rolls around it'll be Rebel time just like every other year, and Canon will not neglect it's entry level cash cow body. So by that logic, I don't think we'll see a 7DII announced until at the earliest, end of summer but more likely early fall 2012 with availability for the holidays.

That gives me 3 good options:

a) keep my 7D and compliment it with a new 5D III
b) sell the 7D for a 7DII if it's that good and maybe pick up a used 5DII

c) end of summer, I'll have enough saved for the 1D-X if options a or b don't satisfy.

Most likely 4 to 9 months for announcements of those 2 cameras. One early next y ear one in August/Sept.
