Wow! What a nice looking lens.

When I see something like this I sometimes wish I had a 645D. :-)

Pentax-A* 645 600mm F/5.6 ED (IF) Star Lens.
I don't know anything about this lens or if the price is right or not. But, dang, that one looks good.

Cheers.

Are you sure? The seller only marks it 8½ out of 10 cosmetically :D Oh they've got a FA* 80-200mm f2.8 !

Get the 645 to K-mount adaptor and use this lens on your K-5.

If the lens doesn't bankrupt, a decent CPL would! 128mm. Ouch. But I have to wonder just how great that length would be on a 645D.

The store has two 80-200mm f/2.8 lenses, too.

It looks like it has a drop in filter at the back
Drop in CPL filter from the same seller.

Used to go for about $3000 on the used market from what I remember in the 2000 decade. Ebay is blocked from my work here so I can't see the listing on it. It has 4 extra elements in 5 more groupings over the A* 600/5.6 ED (IF) 35mm lens.

Just imagine how many TC's you could add to that Ron! Imagine the sweet spot!

Hi Ron

I have one of those babies sitting in my closet. If LBA ever strikes you, I will gladly pass it to a fellow pentaxian :-)

Maybe some fellow pentaxians are interested on how this lens performs on a K-5.
I took the lens out of the closet and I did a quick test.

I'm sorry for the boring subject but there isn't anything interesting around my house.
camera: Pentax K-5
ISO: 400
speed: 1/3200
aperture: f8
distance from the subject: 7,5 meters
light: overcast daylight

Shot in PEF and converted in ACR. I applied 50 sharpening (radius 1, detail 25, masking 50).

Please bear in mind that my tripod is not sufficient for such a heavy lens and some blur may have decreased IQ.
All in all I think the lens did a great job.

100% crop

Edit: Now I see it, DPReview's compression algorithm did a lousy job :-(

Thanks for the lens images Giorgos. It's a monster. :-) Looks good though.

I think I will just stick with my FA*250-600mm f5.6 lens.

Cheers.

Some interesting Pentax stuff on that shop site - the 1000mm Reflex, several 85mm "Softs", A* and M* 300mm f4, 28mm shift to name a few.
Hi Steve,

No doubt they have some interesting stuff. However, it seems to me that the prices are a little on the high side for most of it.

Cheers.

Hi Ron,
certainly a very good looking lens!

When i bought my Pentax-67 M*400mm/4 i also looked at that lens but the size and weight was the decisive factor because i wanted a lens that could fit in my camera bag.

But would certainly like to have one for when i only go for wildlife :)
Hi Leopold,

Gio645 will fix you up with his.
Cheers.

Hi Ron.

I bought mine in the U.K. at a very good price only a couple of years ago and then noticed another one for sale at the Photographica Camera Fair only a few weeks later. Mine was much better condition. I would say about 95% as good as a new one. The other lens was poorer and more expensive still. But it's a rare beastie and beautifully made. The build quality is simply exemplary. Very heavy to use though and diffiicult to use handheld. I currently use it on either a Benbo Mark 5 or Mark 6 or usually my Cullmann Titan. Pointless to use on crap tripods.

Thanks
