The other day I was downloading a full tape from my camcorder into iMovie.

I noticed that every 15 min or so the computer would slip into sleep mode, and the camcorder would stop.

Although I lost no foottage its very annoying.

The energy bit is set to 'never' so in theory it should never happen.

I did read somewhere that this does happen with the new laptops-and that there is a fix for it.

Im using Jaguar in the iBook (new) all the time - NO os9 in the machine , just to force the issue.

The iBook has two settings in the "Energy Saver", one for when it
is plugged in and one for battery power. Check that whatever you
are using it on is set to "Never".

Yup did that but it still slips in into a mode after about 10 minutes where everything on the desk top dissapears and some very pretty colours come up.

Problem is that this happens when Im also downloading a video from a camcorder.

If as you say, "some pretty colors come up," then you're not talking about standard sleep mode, you're talking about a screensaver. Screensavers have a nasty tendency to stall or lock-up some applications if the screensaver starts half-way through a processor-heavy application.

Try deactivating your screensaver. ... or you can move the trackpad around every couple of minutes to reset the screensaver clock and keep it from activating.

Yes you are 100% correct - it is the screensaver.

I will deacivate the dreaded screensaver, and banish it from my little iBook for ever.

All I have to do now is work out how to do this.

Anyway thank you for that rustedborg.

Do you watch Startrek ?

Im a great fan of 7of 9.

Best regards

to deactivate your screensaver - go to System Preferences, Screen Effects, and under the tab "Activation" you'll be able to make the necessary adjustments.

Thanks,I did it last nite.

What i found odd was that the screensaver kicks in whilst downloading a movie.

Very strange.

As somebody once said'these things are just meant to try us'.
