Anyone know Fuji warranty policy. I have the opprotunty to purchase a fairly new x100 used, from private owner. Will they honor the warranty?

I have always purchased my cameras used and it has saved me money. Therefore I don't mind taking the chance on a good solid product.

Thanks
SS

The X100 is far from being a "good solid" product as you can see in many other threads here and other forums mainly due to the sticky blades defect. The official warranty covers the camera for 12 months and is not transferable.

If you have the original receipt it may fly for coverage but I don't know for sure. Maybe some one else can clarify that.

Until the sold cameras reach one year old (early next year) we don't know if the warranty will be extended for this particular defect, or if any type of coverage will be even considered, since Fuji has not revealed their plans or officially recognized this well known, worldwide spread and potentially recurrent defect.

Here is the Canadian policy:

2 years and non-transferable but if you can get the original receipt with the camera ...

Don't know what the other countries policies are.

This unit was purchased through Amazon and then resold to current buyer. I can get original information, but not the receipt.

It is slightly used at a good price - I am going with it.

Why would you say it is not a good product? I know there has been the sticking lens issue but .....

Fuji Australia Policy
  • 1 Year warranty
  • Doesn't say its non-transferable
  • Will refund the cost of postage and consignment at the request of the consumer if the product is found to be faulty under this warranty.

As stated in the website, repair turn around time approx. 3 - 4 weeks

I am also one that doesn't mind buying something used as long as its in like new condition. That being said, I bought my x100 new. With the warranty being non transferable the risk was not worth 2-300$ to me. So far no issues for me but the sticky blades is a well documented problem that can come at any time. Good luck, the camera is a joy to use and you'll love it.

Ask the seller for a copy of the receipt. When I sell my gear used, I always include a copy of the original sales receipt so that they can get warranty service if needed.

To my mind they all should. What difference does it make who the original owner was. The critical point is when was it sold and is it within the warranty period from the original sale date. Either the camera will last as long as the warranty period or it won't and if it won't it should be fixed regardless of who has possession (unless stolen).

Why? Because Fuji (in this case) knows what condition their camera is when they sell it new. They have no idea what condition the camera is when the 2nd party sells it to the 3rd. If anyone should have to warranty the camera it is the person who sold it to the 3rd person.

Did you see the thread here about the guy who complained that Fujifilm would not do warranty on his X100? The guy soaked his camera in an alcoholic beverage to test out how badly it would stain! What if this guy cleans up his camera all nice and sells it to someone else. Then it develops a problem. Fujifilm should pay for this???

Expecting the manufacturer to warranty a product they have no knowledge of is foolishness.

I think it depends on country law, we had this discussion before as here in OZ they say return to base where you bought it but it also lets you register the camera with Fuji for warranty purpose. I think I would direct ask Fuji if they honour any warranty within the 12 month the camera was shipped to the country as long as the camera is in good conditions and the fault can be traced back to a manufacturing issue.

But for my liking I would stay away if its not registered in my name with Fuji. People do give cameras as presents and do not include invoice never less the receiver can register the camera for warranty purpose and should be entitled to it. Every country may has a different approach to this in legal terms.

But they can't even tell from most receipts it was you or not who bought it. And even if there is a name on receipt, they should and would not care who name there is. People buy things as gifts or use someone other cards etc. There is no policy anywhere that says the name on the receipt must be necessary yours.

The warranty is here to protect you as a buyer not them. With original receipt, if it is under warranty it should be repaired in the same country of purchase, regardless if it has been sold ten times or not. The warranty starts the day authorized retailer sells it as new.

Two days after I write this, the sticky blades happens to me. Very glad I purchased new and have a warrany.

Sorry to hear.

In the EU, two years, warranty transferable, no matter how many owners.
