I am looking for a good printing company that I can ship my digital images through the mail. I am using a custom lab at the time but am not happy with their work.

Hi Julie,

I use a lab for all my print work here at my studio and they do large volumes of work. All Kodak Pro paper. I do use FTP Voyager to uplaod all my images even though the lab is 10 miles away. I have used them now for 1 1/2 yers they are great at personalizing their service for you. They will create a profile for you and do some test prints to get you started. Prices are very good, .29 cents for 4x5 or 4x6 min. 9 prints. 5x7 $2.00 each , 8x10 $3.50 ect. ect. they are located in Ohio. Here is their contact person and phone # 419-528-3046. Ask for Hollie. tell her John from Lex Photo sent you her way. She is the actual printer person and VP at this lab. Give them a try. They are called Universal Digital.

Pete, I am located in Ft. Myers, FL and 90% of my work is portraiture. The largest print size I will probably need is 20x24.

Sorry, can't help, I'm here in Hollywood, CA where labs abound.

I have been using H&H color in Kansas city for about a year and am very happy with them. I have only returned 1 order in that time because of Color/density issues. They are really on the ball digitally and their service times are amazing. And they pay the shipping both ways! I send a cd to them but they also receive FTP files over the net. Their # is 1800 821 1305. If you call ask for Terry Tuggle and tell him that Tom Burtchaell from Montana sent you.Good luck

Pete,

I live over the hills in Temecula. Were can I get some printing on REAL photographic paper? Every source that I have tried using inkjet processes starts to fade within 6 months or the colors are dull from the start or the prices are too high for anything under 16x20.

Thanx for any suggestions,
Mike

Well, for my money, i'm sold on Walmart (at least for prints up to 8x10, 11x14 coming soon.) Their new Fuji Frontier printer is excellent, you can bring your edited print on a smart card to them and quickly upload to their printer, and about an hour later you have your print.

Best of all, it won't break you up,, 4x6's are .29 cents; 5x7's about a buck and 8x10's are $3. My local Walmart said they are working on doing 11x14's and I can't wait. You can even download to their web site, but orders take about 2 weeks to get.

If one is looking for prints in this size, I can't see spending the bigger bucks to get pics that look really great. bc

If you have to upload images for prints at Walmart, they actually are printed elsewhere and then shipped to your local store (if you want free shipping). This means several days waiting.

I believe Costo and Sam's do it this way too for uploaded orders.

It would be nice if you could upload them directly to your local store for more expedient printing.

Hi Julie;

I would second the recommendation someone else posted for H&H in Kansas City. Of particular interest is their Economy Service Bureau line of service, where the photographer does all the file adjustments, and they just run them through their Frontier printers without further adjustment. The advantage which you get is really good pricing for excellent work, IF you know how to prepare your files. Examples are: 4x5 or 4x6 are $0.60, 5x7 are $1.03, 8x10 are $1.80. They offer all sizes, from wallets to a 30x40 at $42.15 in this service line. Note that the 5x7 and 8x10 prices are about as good as Wal Mart, but the quality is far better, in my experience. I send in the images on a CD, but they also have an FTP service.

You have to qualify to submit orders to H&H under this service, but it is worth it. I've used it a few times recently, and quality was first rate, with good turn around time. H&H is a real professional lab, and also has all the other resources you may need once in a while too, like art board mounting, film scanning, optical printing, etc. About the best quality for the dollar that I've found.
