Maybe I have a setting wrong? But most of my photos, especially indoors come out grainy if not grainy and dark.... Im hoping I have a setting "off" or something that can be easily fixed. The camera has done this from day one....

other then resizing I did nothing to this picture...

Here is where I put all of them up (like 6). I see some are focused on the tree LOL but the ones focused on us we're still grainy... I've never had a problem with my old olypus and Im hoping it's just a setting.

Any thoughts?

Rachel,

Your camera was set on ISO 400, in the shot's I looked at. I find it best to leave it set to 100, except when I really need more light. I'd recommend NEVER using Auto ISO, or the full Auto setting (green camera icon). Try it with the ISO set to 100. I'm betting you'll get much less noise.

I see both 400 and 100 iso depending on the photo...

And if it is both I didnt change anything... How do I change the settings so it doesnt switch all over the place?

I really appreciate you help....

Hi Rachel,

I have the same problem with my new F717. I find that there's a lot of noise at longer shutter speeds. I find that the noise starts at 1/30th sec and longer.

cheers,

In P, A, S, or M exposure modes, look for the ISO settings, and move the yellow bar to 100.

good luck,
Don.

Hi Rachel,

I looked at your photos and I found that the ones shot at IS0-100 did not look nearly as grainy as the ones at ISO-400.

I have the same problem with my S75. In fact, it's a good thing I read your thread today, because I am going to shoot my kid's Christmas play and I was worried about noise in the pics, so now I'll make sure I set the cam to 100 and I will also make sure my shutter speed is faster than 1/30th.

Thanks for posting such a useful thread :-)

i really need to just play and havent had a chance to.

I guess I compare it to my old Olympus which I never had a grainy photo but Im thinking it's the shutter speed I need to some how fix. The old camera was totally NOT manual :) and this one of course has a lot of manual settings.

Dan I checked, I had the bar at 100iso but Im not sure what setting my sister had the camera on, maybe it was a auto and the camera changed the settings :)

Where do I change the setting for the shutter speed? What do I want to try and set it at? :)

Lisa good luck with your child's play and the photos... I look forward to seeing them.

Thanks to Shay, Steve, Jian, Raven and everyone who commented...I wish you guys lived closer and could give me a real lesson or 2. LOL

Rachel who hopes to get more photos in... and fix the problem...
