Got my A65 earlier this morning and played with it all day. Since I'm a total noob I need to learn cameras in general then master this particular camera. I'm coming from a filmmaker's background so I have a little knowledge. It was at Bestbuy with their "secret" release date. Also I bought a Sony SAL75300 lens. Nothing but high praise all around.

welcome to the sony alpha camera world!!!
hmm.... first camera huh?? it should be easy and exciting to use.
have fun with it!!
bye

That's a VERY GOOD first camera. I don't think most of us started off with a $900 first camera. Enjoy!

Wait till you replace that 75-300 (an old minolta film camera design) with the newer Sony 70-300 SSM G. Miles and miles and miles better!!!!

Well, I also paid around 900$ for my first camera. But 11 years ago, 900$ only bought me this http://www.dpreview.com/products/sony/compacts/sony_dscs50
Unbelievable how much more camera you get for your money today.

OP: Enjoy your new camera. Put it in automode, and go shoot lots of pictures for a couple of weeks. Then invest a couple of hours in learning the relationship between shutterspeed, apperture and ISO in order to better exploit the capabilities of your fine camera. And understanding focus mode an metering modes is also a good way to improve your pictures. But if you are used to video you might already know these things.

Dont put it in Auto, put it in M and play around untill you hit the correct settings. That way you'l learn how to use your camera perfectly in a couple of days. Putting it in Auto takes away the whole point of buying a DSLR.

How did you get an A65 already? Are they available in some limited quantities? I heard they were delayed in manufacturing due to the floods.

If there is somewhere I can get one, please let me know.

I agree, or at least keep it in Aperture or shutter priority. You will learn a lot more this way.

Look at the other threads... Best buy had some, and Amazon too.

Woo HOOO! Best Buy's got 'em and they do layaway.....should be a good Christmas after all!
