Any G2 owners out there ? Can you tell me what I do now as far as settings and stuff ? I am truely a novice when it comes to digital camera. Please don't insult me cuz I don't know much about cameras. I happene to be good at some other things.

I have been busy getting ready for a newborn and have not had a chance to even read the manual. But if you could tell me step wise what I have to do before I start taking pictures, I really would appreciate it. Thanks.

I strongly advise reading the manual some then..charge battery set AF to single in and use auto.

Nance,
Step by Step:
1. Place camera on table in front of you.
2. Open User Manual.
3. Read every page of User Manual and apply all instructions to camera on table.
4. Close manual and have fun.

Seriously, there is no shortcut to reading the manual and going through all of the instructions with your camera. What you are going to get in response to your question is a bunch of inappropriate short cuts like "put it on A and shoot away". Otherwise I could just type the whole manual out and you could read it here, but neither of us would stick with that for very long. I always recommend reading the manual thoroughly and making sure you understand it, and try everything as you go through the book. I also recommend reading Phil's review of the camera with your camera in hand - you will learn a lot about the features that aren't made clear in the User Manual. If, after you have done your homework, you still have questions, there are lots of people here willing to help.

For lots of additional instruction go here: http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1010&message=3697387

Of course if you just can't wait to take some pictures, by all means "put it on A and shoot away" but at the end of the day get the Manual out and read it. And, most of all, Have Fun. Cheers

Don ,

Why is "put it on A and shoot away" inappropriate? This person is telling us they have no time. In auto it is a point and shoot and is simple to use. It's easy to say read the manual, but they've implied they don't have the time. If one doesn't have the time, point and shoot.

Your recommendation is just what I would have said to anyone other than someone suggesting they have no time. It's a good recomendation, but I take acception to your assertion that what I said was inappropriate. I think your post could have been helpful without this barb.

In my opinion...you both make good suggestions.

someone who cant read the manual and has no idea about what they are doing ... the AUTO mode is the best option.

I truely appreciate all the suggestions. See the problem is that ny babies(yes twins) will be delivered within next 5 days and I have so much to do and yet still learn the camera. I was really hoping for a short cut but I guess you're right. I do need to read a little bit before I start taking pictures.

Thanks again.

If you have NO time and NO experience with photography then use AUTO mode.

It wont yield the best photos but it will yield photos. Which is better than having NO photos.

Nance,

Shooting in auto will get you through this busy period. Read the manual and learn more when you have time. The other important thing right now is to learn how to get the images off the camera so you can start shooting again. You may want to consult the manual for this....

Read the manual first, and fully. Then, take pics with manual in hand. Obviuously you can put it on auto and take pictures but you could have saved several hundred bucks buying a Canon A40 to do that. Patience and practice make a good photographer, but I will say again, read your manual. The one for G2 is very simple, and using the camera is, also. Good luck.

Hmmm. Let me think. Twins in a few days. My guess is that you will have more time now than you will for the next 18 years.

Read while you can, but don't over do it.

One more thing. Sometimes, you can find an answer faster in the book than you can post a message, wait for some period of time for replies, and then have to filter through the thread.

The manuals are OK. Just look up subject matter and read what you need to know at the moment. If you really can't find an answer, scream for help.

We're listening.

here is what I am gonna do. Take some pics and upload them in this thread for criticism. Tell me what where and how I upload them.

Isn’t it amazing that
there are people who
find time to spend
here in the forums
but not enough to
read even the basic
manual of their came-
ra (supposedly their
pride and joy)...??

Nance:

There are a numbr of people here that would very much like to help you. Others speak for themselves. But, a question of 'now what do I do' is just TOO vague.

http://www.pbase.com is a place where a lot of us post images. It's free, but there is still a little bit of a learning curve to configure your portion of the site. You'll just have to find a few minutes to set up the site as you like it. An outsider, such as myself, could do the basics for you, but you would still have to learn the site in order to make it look the way you want it to.

My guess is that at some point, you will want a site anyway so that you can share your babies pictures with family members. pbase.com is as good a place as any, right?

If you want some help, e-mail me at: [email protected] and we'll chat.
