Just purchased a new Tibook with OS X (10.2.1) installed. Prior to this I used OS 9.0.4 and PS 6 on a PBG3. Want to begin using PS on the Tibook but I'm unsure how to proceed installing PS 6 and then upgrading to PS 7. Want to eventually remove OS 9 (or is it Classic?) from Tibook. Would greatly appreciate help from those of you knowledgeable in this undertaking.

Thanks

As I recall when I installed PS7, you won't need PS6. You get a new serial number, even if it's an upgrade.

Also, update 10.2.1 to 10.2.2, although not necessary for the PS install.

Are you saying I don't need PS6 on my computer to install the upgrade?

If you just purchased the upgrade, you will need v6 on your Mac while you install. Then you will be able to remove it.

Make sure you install v7 while booted into OSX, otherwise you may have problems with PS opening up in Classic mode all the time.

If you have PS 6 installed, when you install PS 7 it will search for the
prior version to verify that you own the program (this is assuming you
are working with a PS 7 upgrade, not full version).

If you don't have PS 6 installed, the PS 7 install will prompt you to insert
your original PS CD to verify you own the program.

Note that if you have purchased PS plug-ins previously, and intend to
run PS 7 under OS X, you'll need to upgrade those plug-ins.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the input regarding the install of v7 upgrade. I haven't yet installed v6 on the Tibook. Can v6 be installed while booted in X or do I have to boot into Classic?

Thanks again.

No worries!

v6 is an OS9/Classic application only - i.e. it's not OSX native. Therefore, if you tried to install it when running OSX, Classic would automtically load first and you'd install the Classic version.

However, if you are installing v6, just so that you can upgrade to v7, this will not matter.

v7 on the other hand will work in both OS9 and OSX. It is therefore important that you boot into OSX and install it from there, otherwise either the System or Photoshop itself will become "confused".
