USA Sony Store A77s SHIPPING!

Very nice.......... You and me both in fact if this rain lets up tomorrow I will be doing some BIF shots tomorrow.

Oh by the way..... the camera came with Version 1.03 installed. I'm no pixel peeper and rarely shoot over iso 400-800 but I can see a significant improvement in image detail and overall IQ over my a33, KM 7D, and even my Nex5 with Contax G glass (and I luv this set up for land and seascape shots). It's found a home.........

Here you go..

I was playing with the focus settings.. Wow - this camera is a lot different to my old canon 40D...

Is that REALLY an EVF ?? you really forget that after a few minutes...

Hi Jim,

I agree, I see a good improvement over my A700 in both performance and image quality.

I was sceptical at first over the EVF, being spoiled by brilliant OVF on the A700, but no more - its simply fantastic.

cheers,
Will

Normal lighting I don't even notice much of a difference...... get it down into very very low lighting and then EVF noise becomes apparent but it still is very usable and I don't find it that objectionable (the a33 is by far more apparent with EVF noise under very low light).

My A77 kIT is SHIPPING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FYI I ordered it 09/11/11

Why? Do you want to buy it?

Yes, I took delivery yesterday along with the LCD screen protector and today I located and purchased the Vertical grip for it too whjich should arrive on Monday.
Real test comes tomorrow because I hope to shoot some football with it.

Initial impressions are as follows:

Smaller then I envisioned - almost a tad too small and if the A65 is indeed smaller, glad I didnt get an A65.

Could be better ergonomically, especially with regard to shutter button placement. Scroll wheels seem a tad cheap to me. However DOF preview button is ideally placed.

EVF (OLED) will simply WOW you! enuff' said on that.

To me it needs the VG (grip handle) to make this better still ergonomically. Maybe I'm just used to them though.

Scroll wheel lag is not an issue for me. maybe for a sports shooter it might be but for the average Joe, it shouldn't be an issue.

Make sure you set the 'diopter" adjustment otherwise it can have an effect on focus peeking. Be careful not to hit video record when you do make that diopter adjustment. (I did, twice!).

It's a very nice complete package for the price. I'd buy it for that alone but hope to see improved ergonomics down the road from Sony.

+1 What's up with the rubber dial's? HD, do some test video and see what you think when you have time. My a55's video seem's to kick it's butt.
It'll be a while before I look at doing any video. I am not a big video buff and will likely leave that to last. Right now I'm still trying to digest all the different controls and settings etc, making myself familiar with the most popular things that I will need to use first. I've already got HDR all figured out and just need the right subject material now. Sadly, I saw a couple fo great subjects for HDR on Wednesday this week but didn't have my camera yet. (I will be going back for them though!) I played with my 70-200 lens a little bit today as I plan to use that tomorrow for a football game. I also compared the "Sports- scene mode" to shooting in shutter priority and I don't like the choices the camera was making for me in scene mode so I am inclined to just ignore that and shoot in shutter priority instead. (I noticed it dropped the shutter speed lower then I would have liked at times.) Still so much to learn....

...and with OVF, under "very very low lighting" ... isn't it just... black ?

I like video and still's. I have five year old so I'd like to have the best of both world's. Just upload some mp4 video to aperture 3 and look's night and day compared to imovie '11.

Are you running Auto ISO? I think that is a really great feature, and it protects you from going above 1600, but gives all modes a lot more choices.

The DRO/HDR settings were confusing to me, coming from a simple a100 (to my new a35). I wasn't sure when I was in which setting or mode. I think I have it now. Did your old cam have HDR?

Very nice......... wish I had some dry weather right now.
The a77 is weather sealed, get out there!

Also, for what it's worth, I found an authorized dealer on eBay with some a77's for the normal price of $1399. Cancelled my Amazon preorder and should hopefully have the a77 sometime early next week.

My old camera did not have HDR and I cant wait to start shooting HDR so that was one of the first things I figured out on the new 77.

I didnt care for the "auto iso" so I switched it to manual. I didnt like that the ISO used was not visible to me on auto in the viewfinder. Maybe I need to revisit that. I did like however that you can set the min (who cares) and max ISO though. Like I said, still so much to learn. (Now I gotta go play with the ISO now that you made me think about it again.) :)

I can't seem to figure out how to get the shake meter in the EVF or is there one?
If I remember reading here in the forums, I think they took that out. There is no visible meter to see on these new cameras. Please do let me know if you hear different though..

On another note I LOVE the horizon level gauge though. Stood in my back yard and took a picture of my house and the meter said I was wrong and you know what? The level gauge was right! It's a good useful tool and I intend to leave it on alot.
